Inah Evans calls queer content by straight men ‘lazy comedy,’ pushes to educate why it’s harmful

<p>Inah Evans candidly shared her thoughts on content creators who use queerness as a form of comedy content, explaining why she believes the practice can be harmful, while stressing that her intention is ultimately to educate rather than condemn. </p><p>During a recent guest appearance on The Koolpals, Inah reflected on a previous interview where she was asked about male content creators who intentionally act in exaggerated queer personas for entertainment. </p><p>“Ang sinabi ko lang, sa 2026 kasi talaga, for me yung mga straight na ang content ay nagbabakla-baklaan is a lazy comedy.”</p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/celebrities/2026/3/22/-dogshow-divas-macoy-dubs-and-baus-rufo-calls-out-queerbaiting-content-creators-tigil-niyo-yan-1558"><strong><u>READ: ‘Dogshow Divas’ Macoy Dubs and Baus Rufo call out queerbaiting content creators: ‘Tigil niyo ‘yan’</u></strong></a></div><div><br/></div><p>She went on to explain that while content involving queer themes can have value when done with genuine advocacy or allyship, she draws the line when queerness is reduced to a joke or a recurring gimmick. </p><p>“Parang ano ba, wala na bang ibang pwedeng gawing content? Unless na talagang as a straight person meron ka talagang certain type of connection with the community [where] you help, or [you’re] an advocate or an ally, and yung ginagawa mong content is to empower them or to make them feel good about themselves... Ang dami namang mga straight na hindi ganiyan yung content. For me kasi, kapag nagbakla-baklaan yung isang lalaki, nakakatawa talaga agad siya in a sense na siyempre lalaki ka tapos nagbabakla-baklaan ka. Automatic nakakatawa yan. Pero para yan ang maging bread and butter mo? Ano ba...mag-isip ka naman ng iba.”</p><p>The <a href="http://dealornodeal.abs-cbn.com"><em><strong><u>Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal</u></strong></em></a> lucky star also mentioned that she wanted to have a conversation with content creators Abdul and Marsy, who are known for creating similar content. Having worked with them before, she shared that she personally knows they are straight men. While she revealed that she is friends with them, along with other content creators and actors like Nikko Natividad and Zeus Collins, who also create similar content, she clarified that she simply chooses not to consume that kind of humor. She added that if she encounters these creators in person, she would still act normally and would not create unnecessary conflict. </p><p>“Hindi ko talaga kino-consume yung content nila. Hindi talaga ako fan ng mga ganoong klase ng comedy... I don’t like it.”</p><p>Looking back, Inah recalled previously calling out a content creator who pranked his mother by bringing a man into their home, a video she said contained homophobic undertones. For her, content like this can unintentionally reinforce harmful mindsets that continue to affect members of the LGBTQIA+ community in real life. </p><p>“It’s not good kasi may mga tao talagang pinapatay. May mga bakla na dini-disown ng pamilya, hindi nakakapag-aral, hindi lumalabas yung totoong talent. May mga tao sa showbiz na hanggang ngayon gusto nilang lumabas na bakla pero hanggang ngayon hindi nila magawa dahil sa ganiyang klase ng mentality tapos gagawin mo siyang brand of your comedy.”</p><p>She also pointed out that comedy itself continues to evolve, and creators should grow alongside changing times. </p><p>“As a part of the community, hindi siya maganda. Kahit yung magjo-joke kayo ng may sakit [hindi rin]. Siguro dati nung &#x27;80s or &#x27;90s [nakakatawa], pero di ba we grow, we evolve. So dapat yung mga comedy natin, it progresses too.” </p><p>“Matatalino naman tayong mga tao and I think kaya naman buhay na buhay ang comedy sa Pilipinas is because lagi tayong nakakahanap ng materyal,” she said, reiterating that using queerness for content and monetization is not good. </p><p>Despite her stance, Inah made it clear that she does not wish to shame or permanently cancel creators like Abdul and Marty. Instead, she hopes to help them better understand why this type of content may be harmful. </p><p>“Ipapaliwanag ko kasi I think hanggang ngayon, hindi nila naiintindihan. Kasi parang yung isa nilang guesting with Kuya Lucky (Luis Manzano), parang they don’t realize na it’s queerbaiting...Siguro walang proper avenue or tamang resource person [silang] nakakausap to let them know. Kasi si Abdul and si Marsy they’re really nice people. Siguro hindi lang nila nakikita kung bakit siya harmful and bakit hindi dapat ganoon. Kasi after naman nung na-call out sila, they still do it and yun pa rin yung content. So feeling ko, walang impact sa kanila.”</p><p>During their interview with Luis last March, Abdul and Marsy acknowledged criticisms accusing them of queerbaiting. The pair shared that they have asked members of the queer community whether their content causes offense, and according to them, most said no. They also maintained that their intention is not to deceive or hurt anyone, but simply to entertain audiences and make people happy through their content. </p><p>Still, Inah emphasized that dialogue and education remain more important to her than public backlash. </p><p>“To be honest, kapag may mga ganitong issue, ang gusto ko kasi lagi is to educate more than [knowing sinong] powerful, hindi ganon eh... Kaya naman nasa minority yung mga LGBT is [because] talaga [ito] yung community na walang equal rights, marami talagang pinagdadaanan, maraming discrimination every day. So to find people na uninformed and [to make them] informed, ipaglaban yung [karapatan nila], and maintindihan yung ipinaglalaban ng minority, mas okay yun diba? Nagcoco-exist tayo. Inah reiterated that despite disagreeing with the content itself, she still sees those creators as good people and believes understanding each other should come from empathy. </p><p>“Mas masaya kung lahat tayo naiintindihan ang isa’t isa at nanggagaling tayo sa pagmamahal.”</p><p>Apart from Inah, creators Macoy Dubs and Baus Rufo of the popular online show Dogshow Divas, as well as Miss Philippines Earth 2025 Joy Barcoma, have also spoken publicly against queerbaiting content creators, urging accountability and greater respect toward the queer community. </p><p>Meanwhile, Inah is set to take center stage for her first-ever solo comedy live show, <em>THE BAKLANG KANAL SHOW LIVE!, </em>happening on July 10.</p>
