Bianca del Rio talks about her tour, LA wildfires and Pinoy drag queens

<p>Drag queen superstar Bianca del Rio was &quot;welcomed home&quot; during her press conference for her ‘Dead Inside’ show in Manila, happening on January 17, Friday at the New Frontier Theater. </p><p>“How does that work? Because they say in New York, in America, that you have to live in New York at least 10 years to be a New Yorker. So, how many years does it take for me to call this home? Three tours is enough? I think that&#x27;s enough,” she candidly responded.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/173707453000206aebd64-2588-43a4-a9bc-93d9057dcdcb.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Drag queen superstar Bianca del Rio is back in Manila for  her show &quot;Dead Inside&quot; happening Friday, January 17 at the New Frontier Theater." style="width:950px"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Drag queen superstar Bianca del Rio is back in Manila for  her show &quot;Dead Inside&quot; happening Friday, January 17 at the New Frontier Theater.</span></span></span></div><p>This is del Rio’s third show in Manila, and she knows, and every drag race fan knows that if it’s a Bianca del Rio show, it’s packed, it’s good, and it’s loaded with a lot of shade. </p><p>“Third is fun,” she said, but it can be tricky too, as people would always expect something new and grand from her show. </p><p>“Oh, always. Well, I&#x27;m grateful that there&#x27;s so much happening in the world. So, all of it then becomes part of the show because you&#x27;re never short for material.”</p><p>She added, “Like, I started this tour early last year. And so, what I started with and what I have now are like two completely different shows because so much has happened within that time span that you have to keep up to date with the things that are happening and included in the show.”</p><p>Also, for every country or city that she visits, del Rio makes it a point to infuse something local and relatable to the audience. </p><p>“Oh, totally. There&#x27;s always something that happens, whether it be the airport, whether it be the hotel. Yes, politics. All of it has to incorporate into the show in order to make people feel comfortable. Also that you&#x27;re paying attention to what&#x27;s happening to them.”</p><p>“So what&#x27;s it with Philippines? Well, I&#x27;m still working on it because I just got here. So I&#x27;m trying to find out what the hot topics are. I&#x27;m trying to find out what are the specific things that I do need to discuss.”</p><p>“And if all else fails, you&#x27;ve got Jiggly Caliente. That always works.”</p><p>We also sought her insights on the ravage brought about by the wildfires in Southern California. She is based in Palm Springs, but on her way to LAX airport, she knew something was off when the wind gust was terribly strong. </p><p>“It&#x27;s insane to think about. And someone had pointed out to me that it&#x27;s rather shocking that the fire started once I left, which is interesting. But we got out just in time because I was traveling to do a show in Hawaii, which was crazy,” she said.</p><p>“And as we were driving into LAX to the airport, we were like, something&#x27;s up. Something seems off. The winds were extremely, really heavy. And we were unaware. And it wasn&#x27;t until we landed that we found out what was going on, which is insanity to think about. It just got dark in here.”</p><p>She added, “And I mean, also, you&#x27;re talking about huge entertainment capital here, which is insane that this is what&#x27;s going on. So fingers crossed. And I hope that they can get a handle on this.”</p><p>During the press conference, some local drag queens like Tita Baby, Myx Chanel, Salmonella, and J. Quinn got the chance to ask del Rio some questions, get pieces of advice, and also a photo op. </p><p>Del Rio expressed her happiness and appreciation to the thriving drag community in the Philippines. </p><p>“What a crazy journey it&#x27;s all been. And I think that it&#x27;s important to do what brings you joy, and if they&#x27;re enjoying it, that&#x27;s the best thing there is. I often have people online say things where they&#x27;re discussing local queen, and I think, what&#x27;s the difference? I was a local queen for many years. I was a local queen for 18 years.”</p><p>“I&#x27;m still a local queen,” she continued, “You still say yes, you still do the gigs. So it&#x27;s not so much about grasping that title. It’s about putting in the time, putting in the work, and as I said before, finding that audience, which is the ticket. Go to the people.
