The Streetboys cancel their Canada tour: ‘We truly appreciate your patience’

<p>After reuniting on stage last year during the ‘<em>SB ‘90s: The Street Boys Reunion Dance Concert,’</em> held on November 8 at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City, one of the country’s most beloved all-male dance groups, The Streetboys, excited their longtime fans last April when they announced a tour in Canada this year.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fweb.facebook.com%2FTheStreetboysofficial%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0VaeEZtnpiwHp3su7qacHLXtkCfD9EeFw3dF6DTqbXnNoHf6DbE5RMDNPbNyB5htjl&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500" width="500" height="496" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Unfortunately, in the latest post on their official Facebook page last July 15 declared that they would not be pushing through with their international plans. </p><p>They wrote,  “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!</p><p>&quot;We regret to inform you that the upcoming Streetboys Canada Shows have been officially cancelled, despite our best efforts to have the shows continue.</p><p>&quot;We know many of you were looking forward to these shows, and we truly appreciate all the support and excitement from our fans in Canada. Please know that we remain committed to making our way to Canada in the future and sharing our performances with you.</p><p>&quot;For more information, kindly contact your local producers or ticket providers.</p><p>&quot;Thank you for your understanding and unwavering support. Last May, they celebrated together for the double birthday celebration of their founder Chito Roño and member Jemarth Lalic. In honor of their mentor and longtime manager, the group also dedicated a message to Direk Chito.</p><p>They wrote, “Happiest birthday boss Chito S. Roño. Maraming salamat po sa pag gabay, pag tulong at pagmamahal sa amin. We are forever  grateful to you! Enjoy your day! Some of the members who flew in just for their concert last November included Spencer Reyes from Scotland, Joseph De Leon from Dubai, Michael Sesmundo from the United Kingdom, and Sherwin Roux from Canada. Known for their athletic abilities and dynamic moves on the dance floor, the group’s popularity also led them to star in two films <em>Spirit Warriors</em> in 2000, and <em>Spirit Warriors: The Shortcut</em> in 2003.</p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/2024/4/18/this-is-why-vhong-jhong-and-wowie-won-t-be-at-the-sign-90s-dance-concert-929"><strong>READ: This is why Vhong, Jhong, and Wowie won’t be at THE SIGN ‘90s dance concert</strong></a></div><div><br/></div><p>In an interview with <strong>PUSH ABS-CBN</strong> last year, Streetboys member Spencer Reyes shared the struggles he and his fellow members went through during their early years as a group.</p><p>“Siyempre kasi galing kami diyan. Kaya kami tinawag na ‘Streetboys’ kasi in Tagalog it means, &#x27;batang kalye.&#x27; Nung nagsisimula kami, wala din talaga kaming pera nun. Siyempre pag nagsimula ka you need to know kung sino yung tutulong sa ‘yo, parang ganun. Good thing, merong taong nagtiwala sa amin. And then nag-audition, nabuo kami as the Streetboys.</p><p>“Actually we were 13 original members and sabi lalabas kami sa TV pero umabot ng mga six months, seven months, sumasayaw lang kami sa disco-han. And then ang bayad lang sa amin dun is two stubs for iced tea plus pulutan. That’s it. So na-test yung tiwala, yung patience, yung faith. So yung kalahati ng members namin nun hindi na bumalik. So ang bumalik lang is kami and then dun na nagsimula yung lumabas kami sa TV. And then yung umalis, gustong bumalik kasi nakita na kami sa TV, hindi na nakabalik,” he recalled. “Kaya ngayon gusto ko i-share yung naramdaman na hirap. ‘Yung journey, ‘yung ups and downs.”</p>
