<p>MANILA -- A dark secret from the past comes back to haunt four women in “What Lies Beneath,” ABS-CBN’s newest thriller-drama series starring Janella Salvador, Sue Ramirez, Kaila Estrada, and Charlie Dizon, which premiered Monday, October 20, on free TV.</p><p>The pilot episode, titled “What We Buried,” follows the once inseparable friends Alice, Mel, Erica, Beth, and Louisa — collectively known as MABEL — whose idyllic teenage bond is shattered by tragedy. Fourteen years later, as the surviving friends reunite, the truth they buried begins to resurface, threatening to destroy the lives they’ve built.</p><p>The episode traces their past and present lives, revealing how the trauma of their youth continues to shadow their adulthood.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/E17FMbfjZd8?&amp;t=530sautoplay=1&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div><p>It starts with Erica (Estrada), now a lawyer, giving a talk about an illegal arrest in a congress hearing. Beth (Dizon), who dreams of being a reporter, is now a teacher and wife to Ryan (Yves Flores). Mel (Ramirez) is now a popular celebrity stylist, who is being accused of beating her husband Anton (Jameson Blake), while Alice (Salvador) has just returned from abroad with her son. </p><p>After 14 years, Beth, Mel, and Alice reunite to renovate the old house that once served as their favorite hangout spot. Mel, who is facing scandal, asks her friends to allow her to document the renovation for her to have a positive spin. Louisa dies from the assault, leaving the group in shock.</p><p>Authorities soon investigate the incident, and suspicion falls on Edong Santiago, the brother of Lucas, who was Erica’s love interest. The day before Louisa’s death, Erica and Edong had a physical altercation, further casting doubt on his innocence.</p><p>Despite denying the crime, Edong is tortured by police. Erica, who insists she never saw the attacker’s face, maintains that Edong is not the culprit, pointing out that the real assailant had a scar on his back. Her statement, however, only earns her a threat from investigators for allegedly obstructing justice.</p><p>Back in the present, Lucas (JM de Guzman) is seen watching a news report about the three friends — as does Edong (Jake Cuenca), who remains behind bars.</p><p>Another flashback reveals a tense moment from the past, when the young Erica and her friends debate whether to tell police that Edong killed Louisa. Erica refuses, insisting he is innocent. Beth is the first to identify it, followed by Alice and Mel. Erica, who knows the truth behind the watch, stays silent and turns away. At hindi mo dapat kinakalimutan ang una mo.”</p><p>When Erica demands to know how he got her number, Edong responds coldly: “Nakabuo na kayo nang sarili-sarili niyong buhay, pinagsisisihan niyo ba ni minsan na sinira niyo &#x27;yung sa akin?”</p><p>&quot;What Lies Beneath&quot; is under the direction of Dado C. Lumibao and Froy Allan P.
