anniversary special is set to premiere on December 19.</p><p>Set in Korea in the 1980s, the nostalgic &quot;Reply 1988&quot; follows five childhood friends and their families living in a neighborhood in Seoul. It is the third installment in the &quot;Reply&quot; series, which also includes &quot;Reply 1997&quot; and &quot;Reply 1994.&quot;</p><p>&quot;Reply 1988&quot; was a domestic hit, recording a 19.6 percent viewership for its finale — the highest for a cable TV show at the time. It also gained international popularity through streaming platforms, including Netflix, with the BBC crediting it <a href="https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20251112-the-tv-masterpiece-that-sparked-the-k-drama-boom"><strong>in a recent feature</strong></a> as helping to spark a &quot;Korean drama boom&quot; overseas.</p>
