Director Raymond Red gives his full support to the 6th Cinegoma film festival

<p>As he takes on the role of co-film festival director and creative consultant to this year’s Cinegoma film festival, longtime director Raymond Red gave his full support to the annual event. Already on its sixth year and organized by RK Rubber Enterprise Co., Cinegoma encourages film enthusiasts of all backgrounds to use their creativity to produce original and quality short films. I was a jury member in the Monatno Film Festival in Baguio and nandudun sila. Nung narinig ko nga, na-amaze ako. Nakakatuwa ‘yung name ng festival. Ano ba ito? A metaphor for flexibility and adaptability? Parang goma di ba? Sabi ko virtues of independent filmmaking yan. Sabi ko ang ganda ng metaphor niya. It was amusing and fascinating at the same time. Natuwa agad ako tapos nag-discussion kami. Sabi ko sa kanila, nandun din ‘yung passion ko, ‘yung dedication ko ever since, and I always want to help sa pag-spread ng knowledge in filmmaking,” he shared during the Cinegoma press conference. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/03/13/22/brothers-raymond-jon-red-team-up-for-adarna-gang"><strong><u>READ: Brothers Raymond, Jon Red team up anew for &#x27;Adarna Gang&#x27;</u></strong></a></div><p>This year, the festival’s theme is “May Kwento ang Bawat Laban“ and entries were made open to amateurs, professionals, and students in various range of categories, including artificial intelligence (AI) produced films. </p><p>“Ngayon, nandiyan na ‘yung new approaches to film and napakalaking discussion ng AI, and I’m aware you’re now considering having a category for that. It’s a very sensitive subject, I know. Pinaguusapan yan sa lahat ng industries. Even Hollywood is brought down to its knees because of the effects of that. Ang discussion nga is hindi natin ma-a-avoid [ang AI], it’s inevitable. It’s a new tool. So how you use the tool — whether you are progressive or positive or gagamitin mo in a negative way — ‘yun ang importante dun. ‘Yun ang kailangan natin ma-determine for the future. So dini-discuss namin ‘yun in the festival. Papaano nga ba iho-hold yung ganung category. Mas kilala niyo na siguro ‘yung son ko, si Mikhail Red and even my other son, si Nikolas Red who is doing his first feature film. So they’ve been very active. On my part, I’ve really had this advocacy towards film education from the very onset,” he said. </p><p>Raymond went on to share his journey as a filmmaker and his love for learning. “When I was a young filmmaker at 19 years old, na-hire ako agad sa Mowelfund Film Institute. So filmmaker ako pero teacher na din ako nun. So hindi na ako tumigil sa pagtuturo from that point on. Mula noon, naging passion ko mag-share ng knowledge. Nag-aaral ako hanggang ngayon. So whatever na na-di-discover ko sa journey ko sa pag-aaral sa pagiging filmmaker, gustong gusto ko i-share agad sa mga other aspiring filmmakers. Cinegoma Film Fest introduces artificial intelligence category</u></strong></a></div><p>During the presscon, the Cinegoma co-film festival director also stressed the importance of the short form creations in the local film industry. “After making so many short films, feature films, experimental films — ‘lahat yun naging foundation ko yun. Pero hanggang ngayon, ginagawa ko ‘yun. I think ang important na na-i-impart ko sa young filmmakers is that ‘yung short form is not just a stepping stone. I respected the art form for what it is, apart from mainstream films and long feature films na lagi namin sinasabi. I’ve always had this passion for promoting awareness sa art form ng short filmmaking. Hanggang ngayon nga, gumagawa ako ng short films,” he added. </p><p>The Cinegoma festival will run from November 24 to 29 in selected cinemas. </p>
