Filipino film Filipiñana bagged the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Creative Vision at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States.Directed by Rafael Manuel, the film held its world premiere at Sundance as one of ten entries in the festival&#x27;s World Cinema Dramatic Competition. According to festival.sundance.org, the section showcases &quot;narrative feature films from emerging talent around the world offer fresh perspectives and inventive styles.&quot;As per jury citation, &quot;with stunning visual command and sensitivity to the setting, the filmmaker thoughtfully evokes a world where characters languish. Through its static form, the filmmaker highlights insidious tension between luxury and labor,&quot; earning Filipiñana the Special Jury Award for Creative Vision.The film stars Jorrybell Agoto, Carmen Castellanos, Nour Houshmand, Isabel Sicat, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, and Teroy Guzman.Filipiñana is led by producers from Singapore, the Philippines, and the United Kingdom, with co-producers from France and the Netherlands. The project marks Rafael&#x27;s debut feature film.The movie follows &quot;Tee girl Isabel [who] feels strangely drawn to Dr. Palanca, the president of the country club where she works.
