Disney to produce ‘Stepsisters’ live-action film centered on Cinderella’s stepsisters

Disney is set to produce a live-action film centered on Cinderella’s infamous stepsisters, Anastasia and Drisella.Titled Stepsisters, the project will be directed by Akiva Schaffer, according to a report by Deadline. The screenplay will be written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, based on an original script by Michael Montemayor.Akiva is known for directing The Naked Gun (2025), Chip &#x27;n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022), Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), and The Watch (2012), among others.Disney released the animated film Cinderella in 1950. The movie follows Cinderella, the daughter of a widowed aristocrat, who is forced into servitude by her cruel stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and stepsisters, Anastasia and Drisella. Her life changes when her fairy godmother grants her the chance to attend the royal ball, where she meets the prince.<div> </div>In 2015, Disney produced a live-action adaptation of Cinderella starring Lily James as the title character. It also starred Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden, and Helena Bonham Carter.Sophie McShera and Holliday Grainger played the stepsisters Drisella and Anastasia Tremaine, respectively, in the movie.In a previous press release, Holliday reflected on their characters as Cinderella&#x27;s stepsisters, saying: “Anastasia is the younger of the stepsisters. She and Drisella are a pair, almost as if they’re joined at the hip. The movie also won Best Fantasy Film at Saturn Awards in the same year.Stepsisters joins the series of live-action adaptations at Disney following Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and the upcoming Tangled movie, among others.
