JM Ibarra’s debut film 'Child No. 82'

<p>MANILA -- “Child No. 82 (Anak ni Boy Kana),&quot; the film starring JM Ibarra, will finally have its national theatrical run exclusively in SM cinemas, starting July 1.</p><p>The fantasy-comedy-drama won three trophies at last year&#x27;s Cinemalaya Film Festival -- Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress (for Rochelle Pangilinan-Solinap), and Audience Choice. </p><p>In its Best Screenplay citation, the festival jury praised the film for its &quot;witty and poignant writing that turns a son&#x27;s desperate longing to meet his legendary father into a journey of truth and self-discovery; for peeling away the myth of a larger-than-life movie idol to reveal the fragile heart of fatherhood.&quot; </p><div><br/></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1781587478166Child No 82 new poster .jpeg" style="width:655px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><p>In the film, Ibarra stars as Max, a student who journeys from his hometown in Ilocos Sur to Cavite to attend the wake of action-fantasy movie icon Maximo Samaniego, Jr. (Vhong Navarro) and prove that he is his 82nd child, so he could claim his inheritance. Getting in the way of the young man’s goal are other claimants, hundreds of fans in line, and other obstacles including his own mother, the strong-willed Alicia (Pangilinan-Solinap).</p><p>In Cinemalaya, National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee raved about the film, saying it is full of heart. &quot;Mapuso ang pelikula. Totoong-totoo siya. Habang inaaliw ka niya, minumulat din niya ang mata mo sa napakaraming bagay. Ang kanyang seeming kababawan, &#x27;yun din pala ang kanyang kalaliman.&quot; He also gave two thumbs up for the performances, noting in particular that Ibarra is &quot;very charismatic, very endearing.&quot; </p><p>Award-winning veteran writer-director Joey Reyes also approved of Ibarra.
