STAYC’s Seeun, J talk holiday single, reflect on 2024

In March, the six-member K-pop girl group concluded their first-ever world tour “Teenfresh,” thrilling fans across the world. By June, the act <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/2024/7/30/k-pop-group-stayc-on-evolving-sound-growth-1347"><strong>put out their debut full-length album “Metamorphic”</strong></a> and kept the momentum going with <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/2024/10/31/k-pop-group-stayc-longs-for-crush-s-attention-in-gpt-1235"><strong>the release of the single “GPT.”</strong></a> in October.</div><p>For J, the group’s youngest member, 2024 can be summed up in a single word: Growth.</p><p>“Preparing for the tour and our full album made me realize how much we have grown, and I believe it also brought the members closer together,” the 20-year-old idol said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.</p><p>But the year couldn’t come to an end without STAYC — known for its catchy bubblegum pop singles like “ASAP,” “Bubble” and “Teddy Bear” — treating fans to one final gift. </p><p>On Christmas Eve, members J and Seeun dropped the surprise digital single “Over U, Goodbye,” a folk ballad that evokes a cozy winter ambiance, and showcases Seeun’s delicate and sweet vocal tone alongside J’s rich, slightly husky voice.</p><p>J shared that the song was originally recorded two years ago.</p><p>“Initially, it was suggested that the song could work as a group track after recording it as a duet, but many thought it would work better as a duet,” she recalled.</p><p>“After a lot of trial and error, we ultimately decided to keep it as a duet,” J added.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/05zPopMSexw?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span></div><p>When asked how it was decided that she and Seeun would record the song, J said: “Maybe because our vocal tones are similar, the sound is very harmonious, allowing each of our voices to be heard more clearly.”</p><p>This isn’t the first time the duo has worked together, as they previously collaborated with bandmate Sieun on the track “Find” for the “Metamorphic” album.</p><p>Notably, “Over U, Goodbye” showcases an intriguing shift in mood and pacing within its three-minute runtime: the first half carries an acoustic vibe, while the second transitions into a slower, more relaxed feel.</p><p>Seeun said the song’s lyrics also evolve alongside the shift in its music.</p><p>“The lyrics of the first and second verses describe parting with someone you love and feeling hurt, but still holding onto your love for them,” she explained. “In the third verse, the song feels bright and the lyrics shift to overcoming and moving on from the person, creating a calm and tranquil vibe.”</p><p>As 2025 approaches, STAYC is eager to spend more time with their fans, hinting at a comeback early in the year and another world tour. “I’m excited about how much time we’ll get to spend with our fans [next year],” Seeun said.</p><p>Filipino SWITHs, as STAYC’s fans are known, won’t have to wait much longer, as the sextet <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/events/2024/12/1/waterbomb-manila-2025-lineup-revealed-1352"><strong>has been confirmed as part of the lineup for Waterbomb Manila</strong></a> in February.</p><p>“To our Filipino SWITHs, I hope you spend the rest of 2024 filled with happiness. Please keep supporting us next year as well.
