EXCLUSIVE: Kitchie Nadal thankful as her songs remain relevant: ‘I don’t take it for granted’

Whether at family gatherings, get-together with friends, or even in random karaoke sessions at home, Kitchie Nadal’s classic hits have always been the go-to songs of many. Several years have passed since the peak of Kitchie’s music career, but her songs have managed to transcend generational borders and remain relevant today.  In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, the singer-songwriter said she is grateful for the sustained popularity of her songs.  “I’m really thankful for that, and I don’t take it for granted,” she said.  During the media conference for her upcoming concert titled New Ground Manila last Monday, June 9, the singer-songwriter described how she feels about the present generation’s appreciation of her songs. <div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-14" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/DKvcZyWtjcA/embed/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=768&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fod2-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A14%2C%22os%22%3A6087288.100000024%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="847" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-14" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe></div><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script>“Nagulat din ako andami pa ring may alam nung songs, even the younger generations,” she said. “Maraming Gen Zs, maraming pumupunta kahit sa mga bars. So, surprise ‘yun sa amin, I mean with my band, kasi hindi namin in-e-expect na ‘yung mga songs namin masasali pa sa playlist nila, kasabay ng mga bagong artists na lumalabas ngayon.” Kitchie told PUSH ABS-CBN that the love that she and her songs have been receiving inspired her to do the concert as her way of giving back.  “Since buhay na buhay (pa rin) [ang mga kanta] ngayon, even with this generation, this kind of compelled me to accept this offer to do a concert and [to collaborate] with new artists,” she said.  Set for June 21, the New Ground Manila concert, which will be held at Araneta Coliseum, will feature some of the new breed OPM artists including Zild, Kaia, and Skusta Clee.  <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/music/2025/5/6/kitchie-nadal-to-stage-solo-concert-at-araneta-teases-new-collaborations-1916">READ: Kitchie Nadal to stage solo concert at Araneta, teases new collaborations</a></div>Meanwhile, the OPM singer, who has been married to Carlos Lopez since 2015, said that she is blessed to have a supportive husband.  “Siyempre ‘pag nasa Spain, we can only do so much because [malayo], it’s away from the Philippines,&quot; she told PUSH ABS-CBN. &quot;So, my husband supports me by allowing me to perform doon sa mga nearby countries like Malta, Sweden, Canada, or Paris. Sobrang supportive siya, even if I spent a few days away from them.&quot;In an interview with Ogie Diaz, she said that her entire family, including her husband who works remotely, will be staying here for some time to support her comeback in the music scene.During the media conference, Kitchie said that while in Spain, she was still able to do her passion while also bringing OPM to the places rarely reached by it.  Reflecting on her experience performing abroad, she said that it gave her a renewed purpose as a musician.  <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/music/2025/6/9/how-kitchie-nadal-championed-opm-while-living-in-spain-1901">READ: How Kitchie Nadal championed OPM while living in Spain</a></div>“Parang nagkaroon ng new purpose &#x27;yung career ko as an artist over there. Because I feel &#x27;pag once binuhay mo &#x27;yung music scene, nabubuhay mo rin ‘yung Filipino community — nabubuhay mo Filipino restaurants, businesses, beauty parlor… so parang I feel ‘yun yung naging purpose ko living in Spain,” she told reporters.Kitchie’s famous songs include “Wag Na Wag Mong Sasabihin,” “Bulong,” and “Same Ground,” among others. She also has a karaoke medley which has been an all-time favorite of many Filipino karaoke lovers.
