When music icon Gary Valenciano announced his &quot;One Last Time&quot; concert series in 2024, his followers were heartbroken, believing it would be the final time they saw their idol on whatever platform.But fortunately, things fell into place, with Valenciano performing even more for his fans — just in smaller venues.During his promotional tour for his new podcast, &quot;Unshaken: Stories of Grit and Grace,&quot; which premieres its pilot episode today, Valenciano reacted to the viral announcement of Regine Velasquez&#x27;s final concert.“I was so affected by it. Doon ko na lang na-realize ‘yung binaggit sa akin ni Angeli (Pangalinan) noon na when my concert was entitled ‘Mr Pure Energy: One Last Time.’ ‘Ibig sabihin ba na magre-retire ako o hindi?’” Valenciano told ABS-CBN News.“She did tell me once, ‘Gary, baka you need a little break for a while.’ Sabi ko, ‘Maybe,’” he continued.“But when I saw it (the announcement), [which is titled] &#x27;Finale,&#x27; I thought, &#x27;wow.&#x27; Beautiful title. It’s hard, ha? Binaggit ko ‘yun sa concert ko, eh. I said, ‘Right now, you’re part of the last page that’s being written.’ It’s the last page of that chapter. It’s not the last page of the book. I think, with Regine, ganoon din. I don’t know what the next chapter will be like.”He added, “Remember that Regine comes from the background of competing. When she says things like, ‘I can’t sing today like I used to,’ [it signifies something]. Pati naman ako. Medyo binabaan ko nang kaunti (music arrangements). With Regine, ‘kung paano ako nanalo, ganoon dapat.’ ‘Sige, kakantahin ko nang mas mababa, pero hindi ako ‘yun.’”Having gone through the same thing, Valenciano advised Velasquez to make time to rest.“Give her some time to just rest. And then it’s going to hit her again na ‘pag tumayo siya sa harapan ng mikropono [ay] hindi dahil magtratrabaho kundi dahil gusto niya lang talaga,” he said.Meanwhile, Valenciano is grateful to have been chosen by iHeart to host his own show. In reference to the title of his podcast, &quot;Unshaken,&quot; he was asked what shaking moments in his life had left an impression on him.“The shakings in my life? If I reflect back on my life, the most significant event occurred when I was 14 years old and was diagnosed with diabetes. I&#x27;m the only one of seven siblings who has it. The second was when Angeli became pregnant with Paolo, and I had to deal with these things at the age of 18. That was the first time I had a big glycemic episode due to stress. Another shaking occurred when my son Gabriel was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. And then there&#x27;s cancer,” he vulnerably shared.“Marami talaga. I believe that those shaking moments helped me to deepen my communication skills, particularly with young people who see an artist who has been around for 42 years. It&#x27;s wow in every way,” he ended.
