MANILA — Veteran singer Jamie Rivera and actress-comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto have joined forces for an unlikely but heartwarming musical collaboration with their new song, “Fish Na Tayo,” a lighthearted anthem carrying a message of peace, positivity, and hope.Rivera admitted that even they did not expect the collaboration to happen but said the project was born out of a shared desire to spread a positive message.“Kami din, hindi namin in-expect na magkakaroon kami ng collab. This is about peace,” Rivera said.For Quinto, the collaboration is the fulfillment of a long-time wish to return to singing.The actress said she had been praying for an opportunity to record another song and was grateful that Rivera was inspired to create one for her.“Ako nga, nagdarasal talaga ako kasi gusto ko talagang kumanta. Buti naman tinouch ang puso ni Jamie,” Quinto shared.Rivera revealed that she was inspired by Quinto’s vibrant personality and memorable performances, particularly during her appearances on television, prompting her to write something that would suit the comedienne.The song’s central theme of peace came after Rivera asked Quinto what kind of message she wanted to convey.Quinto said the idea resonated with her, especially as a mother navigating uncertain times.“May anak ako, minsan ninenervous na rin ako sa mga nangyayari. Kaya sabi ko, mas maganda na ma-relax tayo sa pamamagitan ng pagkanta,” she said.Rivera also hopes the song encourages kindness amid growing concerns over bullying and violence among the youth.“Ayaw na namin ng bully-bully. Ang dami ngayon sa mga bata, ang daming nabu-bully. Kaya gusto namin peace,” Rivera explained.The title, however, comes with a playful twist.Instead of simply calling it “Peace,” Rivera shared that Peachy (Quinto) transformed the word into “Fish,” giving it a fun and memorable spin while also promoting healthy living.“Hindi puro meat, huwag masyadong carbs. Health-wise, kailangan natin fish,” Rivera joked, adding that the title also subtly references the country’s connection to the West Philippine Sea.Quinto said using humor and music makes the message more relatable.“Hindi naman madaling pakinggan ang peace. Pero sa pamamagitan ng kanta at sayaw, in a cute way, mas ma-i-inspire ang mga tao,” she said.The collaboration also marks a different side of Rivera that fans have rarely seen.According to the singer, audiences can expect a more playful and humorous Jamie Rivera alongside Quinto’s signature comedic energy.For Quinto, the project also gave her another opportunity to perform and work with one of the artists she admired growing up.“At least, nabigyan ulit ako ng chance na mag-perform para sa inyong lahat,” she said.
