Morissette shares why she’s blessed to have Dave Lamar as a husband

“Happy. Actually, sobrang happy ko talaga ngayon. Nasa stage ako sa life ko ngayon na peaceful. Iba ang saya ko ngayon. I’m so happy.”This was how well-loved Kapamilya singer Morissette described to Kuantie Melai Cantiveros-Francisco, the host of ABS-CBN Entertainment’s Bisaya talk show “Kuan On One,” how her married life has been with her husband of three years, singer-songwriter-producer Dave Lamar. It can be recalled that they tied the knot in June 2021 through an intimate and idyllic garden wedding ceremony held in Lipa City, Batangas, which they only announced on social media in January 2022. She went on to regard him as “very supportive” and more protective than her parents since he’s also a singer like her, not to mention that he’s also a songwriter and producer, so he can relate to and understand the problems and challenges that she faces. Thus, she considers herself “very, very blessed.”When asked how she is a wife, the proud Cebuana power-belter divulged that they actually have a balanced relationship. While her husband is the older one between them, she admitted that it is she who is stricter than he is, especially when it comes to disciplining their two furbabies, which are both beagles. But he still knows how to get serious and listen in situations that require him to.Aside from sharing the same love languages—acts of service, words of affirmation, and physical touch—it’s also a big factor that they are best friends for the longest time first before becoming a couple. She remarked, “Iba ang relationship kung you really get to know the person. Ang aming theory is dahil hindi kami nag-date, hind best foot forward, dahil best friends nga kami, kaya comfortable kami sa isa’t isa.”Then she added, “I think, dahil mag-best friends kayo, mas ma-accept mo ang flaw ng isang tao. Kung may problema, pwede ninyong pag-usapan like best friends, pwede ninyo ma-fix. I am very blessed na ang asawa ko, gano’n ang start ng aming relationship.”Another reason that makes her feel blessed to have Dave as her husband is that he’s the one who stabilizes or calms her down whenever they encounter problems or misunderstandings. According to her, they try not to sleep until they’re able to make amends as they make sure to talk things out. However, if it seems that the problem is unresolvable, Dave would force her to hold his hand for them to pray together.We got to learn more about the married life of Melai and Morissette in the “Dakong Problema” segment, wherein they played “Never Have I Ever: Married Edition.” In this exhilarating game, they had to take a shot and explain if they’d already done what was written on the piece of paper they picked from the fishbowl, but they didn’t have to do anything if not yet.Both of them have broken their promise to their husbands, gotten mad at their husbands and said, “Wa man” (No, I’m fine) when asked what’s wrong, and fought with their husbands because of their exes. However, it was only Melai who took a shot at the question of whether they had allowed their husbands to sleep outside due to a misunderstanding.If their love story will be turned into a book, the 28-year-old singer enthused that it’s going to be surely thick and composed of many pages because of everything they went through ever since they started out as best friends, then became a couple and broke up, reconciled, and now that they’re husband and wife.While being each other’s first boyfriend and girlfriend is considered endearing and sweet, their romance went through a lot of bitter and sad moments, especially when they had to endure long-distance. They were relatively young at the time, so her parents did not approve of it, which compelled them to keep it a secret for one year and a half.Eventually, they agreed to break up not because they didn’t love each other anymore or there was a third party, but because their goals at the time weren’t aligned.“Noong time na ‘yon, yes, hurt ako na naghiwalay kami, pero mas masakit sa akin na nawalan ako ng best friend or nawala siya as my best friend. Noong time na ‘yon, kahit hindi kami laging magkasama pero dahil siya ang lagi kong kausap, siya ang naging confidant ko kung saan lahat ng problema ko sa kanya ko sinasabi. Noong nawala siya, mas masakit sa akin na nawala siya as my best friend. Not a lover but as a best friend,” Morissette related.They got back together again after Dave broke up with his second girlfriend, and this time, the Asia’s Phoenix asked him for them to do it right by getting her parents involved. Still, her mom and dad were not in favor of him being her boyfriend, but she’d already mustered the courage to fight for him, and it paid off.According to her, she explained to them that she wouldn’t choose someone she was not comfortable with or she knew would cheat on her. She just hoped for them to trust that they raised her right, so she could also choose a good person for herself.“Ipinaglaban talaga namin. Lumaban talaga. Ngayon, kahit may mga inevitable na panahon na nagtatampuhan kami o hindi kami okay, dinadaan lang namin sa dasal. Tapos nire-remind namin ang mga sarili namin sa aming mga pinagdaanan,” she said. At the end of the epispde, Morissette shared that her favorite Bisaya word is “ayo-ayo,” which means “take care,” and heeded the request of the staff for her to belt out a bit of “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw.”
