It is said that love is one of the best things that can ever happen in a person’s life, as it doesn’t only provide us with kilig, but also the joy, inspiration, and strength that we need to keep us moving forward. But, as we all know, it’s not always rainbows and sunshine in love because there are instances when love will put us to the test when challenges suddenly come our way. And just in time for Valentine’s Day, we recently quizzed a few of our Kapamilya stars about the most unexpected lessons that love has taught them and collated their insightful responses in this exclusive video!Let’s begin with ASAP Dance Siren Chie Filomeno, who realized the value of having to leave some love for yourself and always choosing to love that person despite how tough your relationship would be, yet it still depends on the situation. Besides, we should also be smart when it comes to love because we couldn’t pour all our heart into a person and get nothing in return. She stated, “Life is short, so piliin na lang natin ‘yong mga taong nakapaligid sa atin na binibigyan din tayo ng love na same as sa binibigay natin sa kanila.”While other people tend to look at love through rose-colored glasses, Ken San Jose reminded that it’s not always beautiful and happy because it can also be really, really painful. For him, “Love is more about the times when you get through the pain and you come out of it and you see the beauty. And that’s what makes those beautiful moments gano’n ka-beautiful.”Anji Salvacion gained the same realization about love, saying that it’s not all about fairytales. She added that it is a precious gift from God, who has given us the free will to do so and to choose with whom we are going to share it. Similarly, Edward Barber remarked that love cannot always be pretty and it requires hard work. According to him, “The most beautiful relationships are not the ones that seem perfect; they are the ones that admit that they aren’t perfect and tell you how they worked through it.”Meanwhile, KD Estrada shared that he just learned recently that “you can’t love a person until you can fully love yourself.” He explained that in order for us to give love and care to someone, we must treat ourselves the same way. Seeing how his friends were inclined to hide their feelings, “<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/pbbgen112024" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11</a>” alumnus Jarren Garcia advised, “Don’t be scared to open your heart. “PBB Gen 11” 3rd Big Placer Kolette Madelo, meanwhile, admitted that she used to turn her significant other into her world. She put her complete focus on him, which hindered her from exploring the bigger world beyond their love bubble. So now, she learned the value of balance, which she’s also able to apply in her career. “<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/pbbgen112024" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">PBB Gen 11</a>” Big winner Fyang Smith related that love has taught her to be strong, while JM Ibarra said that contentment is what solidifies any relationship, be it with family, friends, or a significant other. ASAP Dance Siren Loisa Andalio reiterated that love must be unconditional, which means loving the person in spite of their imperfections and accepting who they truly are. Jeremy Glinoga, meanwhile, quoted the Bible verse “love is patient.” He expounded that true love will always find a way to make things work out whenever we have fights and misunderstandings with our loved ones. And lastly, Jona gave a little sample of Mariah Carey’s “Love Takes Time,” as she believes that we must be patient towards the people we cherish. She said that if we genuinely love the person, we can wait for that person until they become someone who we wish them to be.  “You cannot really change the person. Pero ipagdasal mo lang sila, tapos maging patient ka sa kanila. It takes time talaga for a person na ma-realize ‘yong changes sa buhay niya. So, love takes time,” she conveyed.
