5 defining moments of Lara speaking her truth in “Blood vs Duty”

<p>To say that an acting performance is absolutely convincing is to pay attention to the way it leaves you wanting to second-guess your own perceptions, and Bela Padilla does this effortlessly through her riveting portrayal of Agent Lara Angeles in “<a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/studios/tv/blood-vs-duty" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u><em>Blood vs Duty</em></u></strong></a>.” </p><p>Prior to being shown as an accomplice of General Carillo (Bodjie Pascua), her adoptive father who orchestrated the rise of criminal activities connected to illegal firearms, Lara was introduced to viewers as a righteous character trying to take down these extremely corrupt acts alongside her colleague Marcus (Richard Gutierrez).  </p><div><br/></div><div><iframe width="981" height="552" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7UqWf9DVWiQ" title="5 striking lines of Bela Padilla as Lara in Blood vs Duty | Kapamilya Toplist" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><div><br/></div><p>Lara, as a multi-layered character, stands out even more given that while she does her best to obey the general’s cruel orders, her guilt slowly rebuilds her moral compass, ultimately leading her to the truth about her parents’ deaths.  </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Lara reminded Marcus to remain critical of Datu Rahman </strong></div><p>Shortly after Marcus’ intense interrogation of the arrested Datu Rahman (Jaime Fabregas), who tried to prove his innocence against allegations of running a syndicate engaged in the trafficking of firearms, Marcus started thinking more deeply about what really happened at Isla Damai.</p><p>When she heard this, Lara immediately warned Marcus not to be influenced by the Datu’s words, as it was believed that Datu Rahman was adept at manipulating others, with his own people ready to do whatever they could for him, even at the cost of their lives. </p><p>While Marcus agreed with Lara’s caution about keeping his guard up, he continued to acknowledge that there is some apparent evidence strangely contradicting the Datu’s statement. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Lara defended Marcus against harsh allegations </strong></div><p>In the aftermath of Task Force Alpha’s compromised operation at Isla Damai, resulting in a tragic shootout and massacre, Marcus soon received harsh criticism from the public, particularly after the release of a body cam video capturing the deaths of the civilians on the island. </p><p>Although Marcus notified Director Azuelo (Rommel Padilla) and NLEA’s higher-ups about the possible hijacking of their communications that day, which could have been connected to the murders of their TFA colleagues, Marcus continued to face more criticism from his superiors.  </p><p>It was Lara who first stood with Marcus, disputing with Director Azuelo to give the public answers rather than avoiding them. The director then pointed out that the country seeks closure for the tragic incident, but Lara recognized the reality that Marcus is currently being used as a scapegoat. </p><p>While on the staircase, conversing with Marcus, Lara made clear that it was the right thing for her to defend him, as Marcus would have done the same if they switched places. </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Lara encouraged Marcus to uncover the truth  </strong></div><p>At the funeral ceremony of their fallen Task Force Alpha members Oliver (Geoff Eigenmann), Russel (Dino Imperial), and Patrick (Antonio Aquitania), who were all murdered at the hospital, Lara gently spoke to Marcus about how she understood the way he felt responsible for their deaths.</p><p>Lara then expressed that it wasn’t his fault, just like when he lost his younger brother. Responding, Marcus stopped Lara from speaking further of the matter. </p><p>For Lara, if Marcus felt that he was being silenced, the only way to break free is to figure out the truth before it’s too late.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>Lara brought up the risks they must face as Task Force Alpha  </strong></div><p>Marcus found it challenging to select the new recruits to replace the vacant positions of the departed Task Force Alpha members.
