Chiz Escudero now in Samar to campaign <a href="https://t.co/HTn8R1lWCF">pic.twitter.com/HTn8R1lWCF</a>— Jeff Canoy (@jeffcanoy) <a href="https://twitter.com/jeffcanoy/status/707750467921514496">March 10, 2016</a></blockquote><script async="" src="~//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charSet="utf-8" type="text/javascript"></script>SAMAR - Presidential aspirant Senator Grace Poe and her running mate, Senator Francis &quot;Chiz&quot; Escudero, on Thursday campaigned in Samar where they were welcomed by local officials allied with the Liberal Party (LP).In Gandara, Samar, the Poe-Escudero tandem was welcomed by Mayor Eufemio Oliva, a member of the LP and an ally of incumbent Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento.Oliva, however, stressed that he solidly supports the candidacy of administration standard-bearer Mar Roxas, noting his loyalty to Sarmiento.According to Oliva, the LP has not conducted any loyalty check on its members.This, despite reports that following Poe&#x27;s victory in the Supreme Court (SC), several officials from other parties have supposedly expressed desire to move to the senator&#x27;s camp.<div><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/halalan2016/video/nation/v1/03/08/16/timeline-grace-poes-supreme-court-battle">Timeline: Grace Poe&#x27;s Supreme Court battle</a></div>Poe and Escudero also paid a courtesy call on San Jorge town Mayor Nancy Grey, also a member of the LP.Speaking to reporters, Grey said she merely welcomed the tandem to her town, and Poe and Escudero should not expect any support from her in terms of campaigning because she is already committed to Roxas.Like Oliva, Grey cited her loyalty to Sarmiento and the party.<div>PRIVATE ARMED GROUPS</div>Meanwhile, Poe condemned the use of private armed groups (PAGs) during the election season.The province of Samar has been identified by the Philippine National Police (PNP) as one of six hotspots in this year&#x27;s polls.Poe said she believes the PNP will be fair in implementing rules during the campaign season and will steer clear from supporting candidates.Since last year, the PNP has recorded over 20 politically motivated incidents in the area.Escudero meantime told reporters that he and Poe plan on building a bridge to connect Sorsogon and Samar which will enhance economic activity in one of the poorest provinces in the country.Escudero also said that they plan on connecting Batangas with Mindoro, Iloilo with Guimaras, and Negros to Cebu.
