Andrea Brillantes conquers fear through freediving

For many, freediving may seem like a dangerous sport to try. Descending into the depths of the ocean can trigger feelings of fear and unease. However, with proper training, it can be a fulfilling and relaxing activity. Being underwater provides a sense of freedom and self-confidence, akin to a mermaid enjoying her own world. That&#x27;s why many celebrities, including “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/highstreet2024">High Street</a>” actress Andrea Brillantes, are drawn to freediving.Andrea tells Kapamilya Chat that she was quite sporty when she was younger. Although her love for physical activities never faded, her busy schedule as an actress left her with little time for sports. Now, she&#x27;s slowly finding time to reintegrate athletic activities into her life, and her recent favorite is freediving.She began freediving at the age of 16 but wasn&#x27;t consistent, perhaps only trying it once a year over a span of five years. If you follow her mom, Belle, you&#x27;ll discover that she&#x27;s a four-time national champion in freediving. So, it&#x27;s no surprise that Andrea was influenced to try the sport as well. However, her busy work schedule got in the way. It&#x27;s only recently, during a vacation after finishing filming &quot;<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/seniorhigh2023">Senior High,</a>&quot; that she became more consistent in freediving with her mom.Expanding on her experience, she revealed that she has only reached a depth of 39 feet, which she considers to be just baby steps compared to the professional divers she has encountered. Nonetheless, she expresses her happiness about the increasing popularity of freediving, as it has numerous benefits to offer.For one, freediving allows Andrea to overcome her fear of underwater and darkness. While she still experiences panic attacks underwater, she is learning to manage them. She&#x27;s taking gradual steps, starting with basic freediving for now and avoiding other activities like caving that her mom participates in.As advice to those who want to try freediving but are afraid, Andrea&#x27;s only suggestion is to face your fear head-on. “Takot ako pero ginagawa ko pa rin,” she smiled.
