National Museum opens Botong's greatest work to the public

<p>MANILA – “Filipino Struggles Through History” has been dubbed the “greatest extant work of art” by the late National Artist Carlos “Botong” V. Francisco.</p><p>And starting this month, the public can get a glimpse of this restored masterpiece.</p><p>Last February 15, the National Museum announced that it has soft opened the exhibition of “Filipino Struggles Through History” in celebration of National Arts Month. </p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/nationalmuseumofthephilippines/photos/a.195151237175869.48791.194149337276059/1832951260062517/?type=3&amp;theater" data-width="auto"> </div><p>The mural was commissioned in 1968 for Manila City Hall by then mayor Antonio Villegas, and was finished months before Francisco’s death in 1969. </p><p>It was declared a National Cultural Treasure in 1996 and was removed from Manila City Hall in 2013 for restoration. </p><p>“Filipino Struggles Through History” will remain on display at the National Museum of Fine Arts, with museum-quality reproductions to be provided in the mural’s original location at Manila City Hall.</p>
