MANILA – Pia Wurtzbach expressed her support for ABS-CBN on Friday as the multimedia conglomerate faces challenges over the renewal of its broadcast franchise.

Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of her new endorsement for Jollibee’s seasonal tuna pie, the Miss Universe 2015 titleholder said ABS-CBN is “really close to my heart.”

“I grew up with ABS-CBN,” Wurtzbach began, as she recalled her days as a high school student of the media giant’s Distance Learning Center.

“And I’m currently a network artist of ABS-CBN,” she went on, citing a book and a movie with Vhong Navarro as among her upcoming projects as a Kapamilya.

As for the issues surrounding ABS-CBN’s broadcast franchise, which will expire on March 30, the beauty queen and actress said: “I hope this goes by fast, and I hope everything gets settled very soon – in the most diplomatic way.”

Wurtzbach joins the growing chorus of support for the Kapamilya network which includes both homegrown and outside talents.

On Thursday, ABS-CBN president and chief executive officer Carlo Katigbak said the company will soon be given a chance to answer allegations and clarify issues amid threats to shut it down.

He also took the opportunity to thank all employees of ABS-CBN as well as its supporters.
