BACOLOD—One pineapple is attracting curious bystanders at Panaad Park in this city because of its unusual appearance.

Tourists and guests at the ongoing 26th Panaad sa Negros Festival stopped by the booth representing Candoni town to have their photos taken with a pineapple shaped like a fan.

The fruit in question appears to be several underdeveloped pineapples connected at the body.

JP Rivas and his family’s livelihood is growing and selling pineapples in Barangay Gatuslao, Candoni.

Of about 30,000 pineapples they harvested in one hectare of land, Rivas said two looked odd.

“We are not selling the odd-looking pineapples because we believe it brings good luck,” Rivas said.

Meanwhile, provincial agriculturist Atty. Japhet Masculino explained that the pineapples have a genetic abnormality.

According to Masculino, the fruit did not develop the way pineapples usually do.
