In defense of TikTok amid lockdown: It's a matter of coping, says Dimples Romana

<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2020/life/04/16/20200416-tik-tok.jpg"/><figcaption>Actress Dimples Romana is also an active TikTok user. <em>David Ruvic, Reuters/ Instagram: @dimplesromana</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA — TikTok was already popular prior to the coronavirus quarantine, but the video-sharing platform has since become <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/03/26/20/with-tiktok-filipino-millennials-create-freedom-from-lockdown-while-staying-at-home">ubiquitous</a> as many Filipinos find ways to entertain themselves during the lockdown.</p><p>To some, the dubbing and dancing are all in good fun, but others have found the fad, in broad terms, annoying, with every other post on social media a TikTok number from a friend or a celebrity.</p><p>One of the showbiz personalities who has been active on the platform is Dimples Romana, who sees the craze as a means of coping with the new normal of physical isolation.</p><p>Romana touched on the topic in the April 16 episode of #KuwentuhanLang, an online fundraiser that aims to help film industry workers whose livelihood have been affected by the coronavirus lockdown.</p><p>Romana was one of the guests along with her &quot;Block Z&quot; director Mikhail Red, &quot;Birdshot&quot; star Mary Joy Apostol, and &quot;Dead Kids&quot; actor Vance Larena.</p><p>TikTok came up in the context of entering showbiz, with moderator Vic Villanueva saying it can be a launch pad for aspiring stars. Just within the quarantine period, the likes of <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/life/04/07/20/meet-the-new-viral-star-miss-everything">Miss Everything</a> and <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/04/09/20/after-tiktok-fame-dj-loonyo-debuts-as-youtube-vlogger">DJ Loonyo</a> have become viral personalities through the platform.</p><p>Romana then brought up another aspect of TikTok: the reason for its ballooning active users in the time of coronavirus.</p><p>&quot;Ang gandang isipin na nakakapag-express tayo ng mga sarili natin that freely.
