Oscar M. Lopez passes away at 93

Lopez Center photo</figcaption></figure></div><p>Oscar Moreno Lopez, the patriarch of the Lopez clan, has passed away at the age of 93.</p><p>Lopez was chairman emeritus, chairman and chief executive officer of Lopez Holdings Corporation, and First Philippine Holdings Corporation which he headed for almost 25 years before stepping down in 2010 to serve as its chairman emeritus. </p><p>After the Lopez family recovered assets lost during the Marcos dictatorship, Lopez led First Philippine Holdings and was credited for steering the company from virtual bankruptcy to viability and leadership.<br/><br/>He led the company’s diversification from power distribution to power generation, manufacturing, and property development. </p><p>He was known for carrying out programs in business excellence, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. </p><p>He was also behind the “Lopez Credo” which served as the Lopez Group of Companies’ corporate manifesto. </p><p>Lopez believed that the primary reason for being of the group was to serve the Filipino people.</p><p>He served as a director of ABS-CBN Corporation which is part of the Lopez Group, chairman of the Lopez Group Foundation, and chairman and president of the Eugenio Lopez Foundation which administers the Lopez Museum and Library.</p><p>&quot;Jesuit-educated (Ateneo de Manila, US-based Bellarmine Prep and the University of San Francisco), Lopez embodied the fullness of Ignatian values, constantly seeking ways to engage in nation-building and social transformation,&quot; the Ateneo de Manila University said in a statement.</p><p>Lopez was instrumental in arranging his family&#x27;s donation of prime real estate for the Ateneo Professional Schools in Rockwell and the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health in Pasig City, the ADMU said.</p><p>The university quoted Lopez to have said, “Having benefited from the Ateneo education, especially the humanities orientation, the quality teaching, the concern for others, the Ignatian spirituality, and the deep-seated friendship with various Jesuit priests, it is but fitting and proper for the Lopez family to support the Ateneo and the Jesuits.”</p><p>In 2010, the ADMU conferred an honorary doctorate in Humanities on Lopez.<br/><br/>Lopez is survived by eight children; including Federico “Piki” Lopez, the chairman and CEO of First Philippine Holdings; and several grandchildren.</p><div><strong> RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe allow="autoplay; fullscreen" frameBorder="0" height="100%" id="ivsplayer01" scrolling="no" src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/html/iframe-src.html?iframeid=ivsplayer01&amp;key=e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603&amp;spid=3001339&amp;vid=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGIOG8c8Fwg" width="100%"></iframe></figure><div class="iwantbar">Watch more News on <a href="https://www.iwanttfc.com/#!/browse/Genres/News/tag_id_genres/id_news" target="_blank">iWantTFC</a></div>
