MANILA—International supermodel Tyra Banks, who has been vocal of her admiration for reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray, finally had a one-on-one with the Filipino beauty queen as part of the the latest issue of fashion magazine V.

Published online as a text article on Thursday (Manila time), the interview appears to have been done via video call, when Gray was in Indonesia in early March.

“I’m still recovering from your ‘Lava Walk’ at the Miss Universe pageant. I just kept watching and rewatching, like, What’s her secret? I was totally fangirling!” Banks told Gray.

Recalling where she was when Banks took to Twitter to praise her walk, Gray said: “Oh my gosh, Tyra . . . I was sitting at dinner with all the girls. We were tired, quietly eating after rehearsal, when I got all these notifications from what you’d tweeted. I turned to my two friends, Sweden and Denmark, and started freaking out, like, ‘Oh my gosh, Tyra Banks just tweeted about my walk!’”

The two proceeded to talk about “Pinoy Power,” or how Filipinos from around the world loudly rally behind their representatives in any international competitions, as well as how Gray started to get into pageantry.

The interview also covered Gray’s beauty secrets, how she is handling success and the “haters” that come with it, and her mission to lend a voice to her advocacy, including children’s education.

On Instagram, shortly after the article’s release, Gray shared more photos from her V Magazine outing, calling the stint as well as her interview with Banks a “pinch-me moment.”
