WATCH: Catriona's answer to Miss Ecuador comparisons shows she's Q&A-ready

On or off the pageant stage, Catriona Gray appears to be a natural in giving quick yet intelligent answers to tricky questions, as evident in her response to being asked for a reaction to an Ecuadorian beauty queen accused of copying her winning Binibining Pilipinas look.

Gray, 24, was one of the guests at Grit & Glam at Okada Manila Tuesday night, which gathered on one stage the reigning Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, and past winners Pia Wurtzbach and Iris Mittenaere, along with winners of the World's Strongest Man competition.

On the sidelines of the beauties-and-brawn event, Gray was asked by reporters about her preparations for her own Miss Universe bid -- her team is already brainstorming on her outfits -- as well as her impression of her eventual competitors in the pageant.

Some 20 delegates, winners of their respective national pageants, are confirmed so far. Last year, a total of 92 country representatives competed in Miss Universe.

With a loyal fanbase active on social media, Gray shared she has been tagged in many photos of fellow beauty queens set to vie for the Miss Universe crown, and she has seen some of them. But for the 2016 Miss World Philippines winner, a photo can only say so much.

"In pageants naman, I think that you shouldn't put too much judgment on how a girl looks. We're so much more than what we look like in our photos. I'd love to be able to meet them and talk to them, learn about their culture, too," she said.

A particular candidate who has been brought to Gray's attention time and again, is Miss Ecuador 2018 winner Virginia Silva, who is being accused of supposedly copying the Filipina's popular look during the Binibining Pilipinas pageant in March.

Silva was crowned Ecuador's Miss Universe representative on May 5.

Photos and videos circulating among pageant fans note that Silva, like Gray, had on an ornate earcuff that was showcased by styling her hair on one side. The comparisons also pointed out the two had similar gowns.

Asked for her reaction to Silva's look, Gray gave a smart and gracious answer that showed she embodies a beauty queen ready for any Q&A test, even outside the competition.

"The earcuff isn't mine. Gold-colored gown isn't mine. I don't see a problem with it. I'm happy for her, she won. I know behind her is her own journey, so let's not look something like that, like a similarity in a gown. Let's just celebrate the women coming up from their countries and hoping to do good," she said.
