MANILA -- Toy stores in Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cebu City will be allowed to partially open starting May 16 with the implementation of the modified enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made it clear, however, that play and amusement areas inside toy shops will remain closed despite the easing of the COVID-19 lockdown.

"Ang toy store po ay para bumili lang ng laruan, hindi pa po puwede 'yung mga playgrounds and amusement area. Hindi pa rin po puwede 'yun," he said in a press briefing on Wednesday.

"Iyong mga toy stores po mismo, 50% puwede nang mag-operate sa modified ECQ at puwede na sa GCQ (general community quarantine)," he added.

Roque explained that sectors that are allowed to partially open can deploy 50% of its employees on site, with the remaining half required to work from home.

Aside from toy stores, other sectors under this category include shops selling clothing and accessories, books, school and office supplies, baby care items, pet food and pet care items, electronic equipment, flowers, jewelry, novelty products, antiques, and perfume.

Roque said malls and commercial centers can operate non-leisure stores under specific guidelines.

"[Dapat] one person per two square meters, wearing of mask, temperature check, 26-degree temperature [sa mall], no Wi-Fi," he said.

Meanwhile, kid amusement industries such as rides and playrooms, as well as fitness centers, cinemas, and karaoke bars are still not allowed during the modified ECQ, and even under the GCQ.
