<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/life/06/06/kings.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">Joey Mead and Angelina King star in “The Kings” on TLC.<cite> ABS-CBN News/Handout photo</cite></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA – Model Joey Mead and her spouse, transgender woman Angelina King, are sharing their story on television for the first time.</p><p>The two are making their debut appearance together on “The Kings,” which will premiere on June 22 at 9 p.m. on the cable channel TLC (SkyCable channel 62).</p><p>The one-hour show takes viewers on an intimate journey into the life of King, a businessman and car enthusiast who was known as Ian before coming out as a transgender named Angelina.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/life/07/06/16/after-coming-out-angelina-mead-king-shares-her-story">READ: After coming out, Angelina Mead King shares her story</a></li></ul><p>During the press preview of “The Kings” on Monday night, King and Mead explained their decision to do a TV special a year after news broke out about their unconventional relationship.</p><p>“When Angie came out, there were several offers… Working in television, I just kind of knew that it didn’t feel right [at the time]… It had to be done a certain way,” said Mead, who was previously a mentor and co-judge of “Asia’s Next Top Model.”</p><p>“We didn’t want to be exploited,” added King, who was seen in the episode discussing with Mead how one group attempted to take advantage of the buzz surrounding their relationship. </p><p>“We’re not making any money from this. We waived our talent fee… I mean, we’re doing this to get the word out, get the message out.”</p><p>As to what this “message” is, Mead said: “Positivity… That’s hopefully what the audience gets out of it. That it’s not really a big deal, is it? It’s not that strange… [our relationship] can work for anybody.”</p><div><b>HARD, BUT STILL POSSIBLE</b></div><p>King said she is happy to be enjoying her new life as a transgender, and that Mead, her family and friends, and even the public, have accepted her for who she is.</p><p>But she admitted that the transition was not an easy process for all of them. “All the people around me had to get used to the pronouns and the descriptions,” King cited as an example.</p><p>And while she wants to spread the word about transgenders, King said she has yet to adjust to being a public personality. </p><p>“The hardest part of doing something like this and putting myself out there is not having privacy anymore… It’s tricky because I want to live a normal life but now I’m sort of the poster child for this topic,” she explained.</p><p>Mead, for her part, said she initially had a hard time trying to understand what King was going through, and what it means for their relationship.</p><p>But in the end, it was their love for each other that made them stay.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iQYDP-T5nIY" width="560"></iframe></figure><p>“It was really hard… the last two years was hard… but I’m glad I went through that,” she said. “And if it wasn’t for our family’s support and counseling and spiritual awareness [we wouldn’t have worked things out].”</p><p>“[I was] throwing plates against the wall,” she added. “I mean, hello, of course it’s hard… if you say, ‘I don’t want this, this is not for me,’ you’ve made a decision. But the thing is, I want her. I want to make this work. I just had to get over whatever kiyeme (issues) I had. That’s it, basically.”</p><p>Asked to give advice to couples who may be in a similar situation, King said: “If you want to stay together, you find a way to work it out. Don’t give up. You got to try at it.”</p>
