MANILA – Filipino-Swiss race car driver Marlon Stockinger downplayed rumors that his relationship with Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is on the rocks after some netizens noticed that he unfollowed the beauty queen on the image-sharing site Instagram.

In an interview on Tuesday, Stockinger maintained that he and Wurtzbach are doing fine.

“I think we are just keeping it private. It’s always good to show everything, a lot a bit in the beginning but what matters is the two of us in the end behind closed doors. We don’t always have to show that or share that either,” he said.

Stockinger said it has been better since they decided to keep their relationship a little more private.

“It just means more quality time. It’s a great thing. You appreciate it more that way,” he said.

Explaining why he isn’t following Wurtzbach on Instagram anymore, he said: “For me, it’s just sometimes you like to test it and see that even when you do things like this, everyone can even talk about it. That’s just it. We are following each other and there’s no issue.”

Despite their respective hectic schedules, Stockinger said he and Wurtzbach still make sure to make time for each other.

“We have a lot of things going on and it just means we are busier. I’m more out of the country. She’s working hard on the movie also. It’s a hectic schedule but we make time. It’s just appreciating those alone moments together more than anything,” he said.

Meanwhile, Stockinger refused to talk about the controversy which he got embroiled in three months ago following entertainment website Pep’s exclusive interview with model Kit Barraquias, who claimed that he is the biological father of her twin daughters.

“[I handled the controversy] just privately like anyone would. It’s not people’s business to know my thing. You just deal with it privately,” he said.

Asked how Wurtzbach supported him at that time, he said: “She obviously knew everything and I really appreciate her for that. She’s been supportive. I just dealt with it privately with her.”

Stockinger said it also did not affect their relationship. “Never. If you love someone and they love you back, that doesn’t change things,” he said.
