Davao social worker named 2017 Bayaning Pilipino

<p>A social worker from Davao who spent years helping children from a local Badjao community was named this year&#x27;s Gawad Geny Lopez Bayaning Pilipino awardee.</p><p>Fructuosa Alma Olivo has been helping Badjao youth go to school and receive proper nutrition.</p><p>&quot;Ito po ay very ordinary, very common, simple. Lahat po tayo ay tinawag na bayani. When we give, we give until it hurts,&quot; Olivo said.</p><p>Darlito &quot;Darling&quot; Palermo also received a special award for helping differently abled people, such as him, to realize their full potential.</p><p>John Mark Odani won the Bayaning Kabataan Award for providing health services to the indigenous peoples living in far-flung villages in Maitum town, Sarangani, while Proriasis Philippines was named Bayaning Samahan for raising awareness about the condition and helping those who suffer from it get rid of the stigma associated with the disease.</p><p>Filipinos living overseas were also recognized.
