MANILA—Spoken-word artist Juan Miguel Severo called out an unnamed mall on Friday after being offered to perform for food.

On Twitter, Severo, who has appeared on TV and in movies, shared the invitation he received asking if he wants to participate in an event celebrating Buwan ng Wika in exchange for meals.

He declined the offer, describing it as "disrespectful."

A MALL INVITES ME.

TO PERFORM.

FOR A FREE MEAL.

AND TO “FURTHER PROMOTE” MY CRAFT.

In another post, he explained that he is more than willing to perform for free in charities rallies, and fundraisers. Though he said that blocking off a day in his schedule to not make any income, or even lose money, for a mall show makes no sense to him.

"Artists should value their craft enough to say no and not be sorry," he wrote.

Severo first shot to fame after his performance of his poem "Ang Huling Tula Na Isusulat Ko Para Sa 'Yo" went viral in 2015.

He has since appeared in several TV and movie projects, most recently in the blockbuster hit, "The Hows of Us."
