'Katsuri' star Jonathan Tadioan looks back, before facing the future

Handout</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA -- Tanghalang Pilipino (TP)’s Jonathan Tadioan has essayed around 50 characters in his 13-year-stay in the Actors Company.Almost all of these roles were warmly received by the audience and critics, making him the actor with the most nominations -- 10 -- from Philstage’s Gawad Buhay, theater industry’s most prestigious award-giving body.Before he embarks on his journey as Toto, the lead character in TP’s “Katsuri,” an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice And Men” by Bibeth Orteza and directed by Carlos Siguion Reyna, Tadioan recounts some of his career’s milestones and shares his thoughts about his career and dreams:Most rewarding role: Willy Loman, “Death of a Salesman”“Most rewarding and satisfying actually. Kasi una, alternate ako ng isa sa mga iniidolo ko sa teatro si Tata Nanding Josef. Because of his wisdom while doing Willy Loman, nagawa kong sariling akin ang role. Ganun kasi ako magtrabaho, I make sure na may nababaon akong pieces of knowledge galling sa mga taong nakakatrabaho ko. Most difficult role: “Nobyembre, Noong Akala Ko Mahal Kita”“It is a psychological drama. A thought-provoking play about love, friendship, companionship and the consequences they had to face. Handout</figcaption></figure></div>Most unforgettable role: Boy Pogi, “Doc Resurreccion, Gagamutin ang Bayan”“&#x27;Yang role na &#x27;yan ang isa sa pinakatumatak na role na ginawa ko for Virgin Labfest. Kumbaga, isa siya sa mga nag-set ng standard pagdating sa mga dula na napipili sa VLF. &#x27;Yung character naman ni Boy Pogi is very grey. Hindi mo talaga alam kung tama ba siya o mali. Sa paningin ng iba mali ang ginagawa niya, pero sa sarili niyang pang-unawa, tama siya. It is a very complicated role. It is very human.”Most regrettable role: Alamid, “Prinsipe Munti”“Nanghihinayang ako kasi alam ko na mas may pwede pang patunguhan &#x27;yung character ni Alamid, in terms of wisdom and physicality. Gusto ko rin siguro gawin uli ito kung mabibigyan pa ng pagkakataon.” Dream co-actors:“Ang makasama sa isang entablado sina Nonie Buencamino at Teroy Guzman. Favorite director:“Dennis Marasigan, katulad ng kung bakit favorite co-actors and co-actress ko ay ang Actors Company, dahil alam na namin kasi ang amoy ng isa’t isa. Alam namin ang ginagawa namin. Si Sir Dennis, sobrang kilala niya kami at alam niya ang strengths and weaknesses namin. As in he can say straight into our faces.” Best thing about the Actors Company:“The best thing about the Actors Company is the dedication and commitment na binibigay ng bawat members nito. Hindi naman kami kumikita ng malaki sa pagiging members ng company eh. But we love what we are doing. At dahil din sa kilala na namin ng matagal ang bawat isa, ang dali nang buhay kasi may saluhan na nagaganap. May mga exciting din na magic na nangyayari ‘pag nasa show na kami. And, I really think na isa ang Actors Company sa maituturing kong best ensemble sa buong Pilipinas.” Best thing about his career: “The best thing in my career right now is nagbubunga na &#x27;yung pinaghirapan ko ng almost 13 years. Napapansin na ako kumbaga -- nai-invite na ako sa mga palabas ng ibang company like ng ‘Ang Huling El Bimbo.’ Masarap sa pakiramdam na may naco-contribute ka sa Philippine arts and culture. Nakakapagbahagi ka ng kaalaman mo sa mga kabataang walang pangtustos pero willing mag-aral ng pag-arte at iba pang concepto ng teatro. Nabibigyan mo ng buhay ang mga character na ginagampanan mo. Sabi nga nila, the more na tumatanda ang isang actor mas nagiging viable siya, lalo na ang isang character actor na tulad ko.Siyempre, malaking pasasalamat ko rin na ipinagkatiwala sa akin ang role ni Toto sa ‘Katsuri.’ Role of a lifetime talaga.
