These are just some of the Pinoy dishes that became an instant hit both for Filipinos and Belgians at a Filipino food festival held in Brussels earlier this month.Now on its second year, the Manyaman Food Festival continues to attract foodies estimated to be around 2,000.The event saw the Centre communautaire Joli Bois hall in Brussels packed with people eager to discover a wide variety of food and drinks.Supported by the town council of Woluwe Saint Pierre, the festival aimed to feature cuisine that has been part of the Filipino culture.“We would like to promote not only our food, but Philippine products as well,” said one of the organizers Rey Silao Borra.Belgian gourmands, on the other hand, said the event was a great platform to show off Filipino dishes and a perfect way to meet new people.“It’s an opportunity to discover all the diverse food that the Filipinos have. It’s a comfortable way to meet and laugh, and talk to people,” said Jean Louis Erneux.Manyaman Food Festival founding chair Louise Baterna said she hopes to spread the uniqueness of Philippine cuisine.“We hope to bring Filipino cuisine to Belgian tables. As our slogan says “Taste it, it’s Filipino,” she said.Apart from food, the event also featured products from Ifugao such as Cordillera fashion accessories and Philippine rum, among othersIt also showcased popular dances from back home.
