She has since <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/life/10/31/16/miss-ph-earth-if-its-a-crime-to-tell-the-truth-im-sorry" target="_blank">apologized</a> for her comments, but claimed that she was only telling the truth. </p><p>She was <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/life/11/02/16/loren-artajos-to-replace-imelda-schweighart-as-miss-earth-ph" target="_blank">replaced</a> by Loren Mar Artajos, who is set to fulfill her remaining obligations.  </p><p>&quot;It is with great honor that I accept this new opportunity given to me by Carousel Productions,&quot; said Artajos in a statement. &quot;I am deeply humbled by the overwhelming support that my family, friends, and supporters is giving me right now.&quot;</p><p>&quot;This new endeavor is truly challenging but with all the support that I am getting. I am sure that this will be easy and worthwhile. I am ready to take on the responsibilities of being the new Miss Philippines Earth with enthusiasm and positivity.&quot; </p><p>&quot;Fueled with passion and love for Mother Earth, we will make a difference, we will make a change. Thank you everyone for all your love and genuine support,&quot; she added.</p><p>Artajos, a nursing graduate from Laoag City, was named Miss Philippines Water in June. </p><p>According to her Miss Philippines Earth profile, she wants to be an &quot;advocate of the environment, spread awareness of the current climate change issue the world is facing today and implement measures to mitigate global warming.&quot;</p><figure class="op-interactive"><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aE9mn5LxzkM?rel=0&amp;showinfo=0" width="560"></iframe></figure><div><strong>A controversial reign</strong></div><p>There were several controversial incidents during the reign of Schweighart. She likened President Rodrigo Duterte to Nazi leader <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/trending/10/10/16/miss-ph-earth-in-hot-water-after-likening-duterte-to-hitler" target="_blank">Adolf Hitler</a> in front of fellow contestant Miss Austria; got into a <a href="http://www.pep.ph/news/65102/miss-earth-2005-karla-henry-calls-out-ms-philippines-earth-2016-imelda-schweighart-for-her-fb-rant" target="_blank">heated exchange</a> with a former beauty queen; and <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/life/11/01/16/schweighart-refutes-designer-says-truth-will-prevail" target="_blank">lamented</a> publicly that the gown intended for her was given to Espin. </p><p>But the final straw that pushed her to tender her resignation appeared to be the backlash that Schweighart, who <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/life/10/29/16/ecuador-wins-miss-earth-2016-after-ph-bet-crashes-out" target="_blank">failed to qualify</a> for the top 16 of the Miss Earth 2016 pageant, received after she was caught on video publicly bashing the newly crowned Espin.  </p>
