<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/news-special1/nation/13/puno-ng-diwa.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada led the lighting of &#x27;&#x27;Puno ng Diwa&#x27;&#x27; on Thursday at the CCP Liwasang Asean Park. <em>Voltaire Domingo, NPPA Images</em></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA - As the Yuletide season approaches, the lights of a massive lantern in the shape of a brightly colored woman representing the &quot;nurturing&quot; and &quot;uniting&quot; spirit of the holidays went up on Thursday at the Liwasang Asean Park of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Pasay City.</p><p>Designed by Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) teacher Leo Gerardo, the so-called &quot;Puno ng Diwa&quot; was the winner of a competition spearheaded by the CCP in partnership with OMNI (Yatai International Corporation).</p><p>According to Gerardo, his design was inspired by the Higantes of Angono and mythical characters of Bagobo and Manobo origin.</p><p>The outdoor installation was created with the assistance of the PHSA community, Museo Pambata Volunteers, and the University of the Philippines Los Baños Painters&#x27; Club, among other participants from the academic, theater, and visual arts communities.</p><p>The &quot;Puno ng Diwa&quot; was unveiled along with the lighting of several custom-designed lanterns that will decorate the facade of the CCP Main Theater Building, a long-standing collaboration with City of San Fernando, Pampanga that aims to showcase craftsmanship and ingenuity innate in the traditional Philippine Christmas.</p>
