'Mickey ears' light up Manila, seek to cheer up weary commuters

MANILA - The Walt Disney Company has teamed up with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to decorate select Metro Manila traffic signal lights with Mickey ears.The Mickey Lights Up Manila project aims to make Filipinos smile through their daily commutes simply by dressing up 90 select stoplights with Mickey ears.<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2018/life/11/12/20181112_mickey_lights_02.jpg"/><figcaption>Handout</figcaption></figure></div>The special project also hopes to serve as a simple reminder of childhood nostalgia and joy Mickey has brought Filipinos for the past 90 years.The project is part of the 90th anniversary of Mickey Mouse.&quot;This partnership will somehow provide a traffic relief especially in this time of the year where traffic is becoming heavier and heavier as everyone is on a rush preparing for Christmas,” said Chairman Danilo Delapuz Lim of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).“The Mickey ear traffic lights re-live the “Mickey-legacy” of fun and laughter, bringing-out the “child” in all of us as we reminisce the joy that Mickey once brought in our lives when we were young,&quot; he said.The special Mickey Mouse stoplights can be found across key cities in Metro Manila, such as Makati, Mandaluyong, Manila, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Quezon City, and San Juan.
