MANILA – The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) chairman Felipe de Leon signed on Tuesday the rehabilitation and conservation plans for the Manila Metropolitan Theater.

The blueprints, photos of which were posted on NCCA’s Facebook page on Wednesday, will be the basis for the reconstruction of the decaying Art Deco sculpture.

The NCCA bought the Met from the Government Service Insurance System or GSIS in 2015.

Opened in 1931, the Met was designed by architect Juan Arellano, who also worked on the Manila City’s Central Post Office Building and the National Museum.

The structure, located at Plaza Lawton in Manila, was closed in 2012 due to its state of decay and ownership issues.
