Her family is behind Zamboanga’s Tropical Calamansi Juice, which has enjoyed prominence in the province, as well as distribution in Metro Manila, while Carmela’s, owned by her sister, is the go-to place for Zamboanga native treats, most notably the scrumptious buko pie.</p><p>“I started out taking lifestyle classes, and then I finally took a professional course. That was the time that I decided to come back home (Zamboanga), and settle here,” narrated Hau.</p><p>From a home-based business in 2013 to distributing to Carmela’s branches to finally establishing her own brick-and-mortar store in Veteran’s Avenue last year, Hau’s specialty has continued to be artisanal ice cream. The texture has crispy and chewy bites, with a lot of creamy richness in between.</p><p>Hau also has cakes of the non-ice cream variety. Her sans rival cakes can come in the regular eight-inch size, or in giant hockey puck sizes and are surrounded with nuts – pistachio, cashew, or almonds.</p><p>Not to be missed is the Mango White Chocolate Cheesecake. Customized fondant cakes are also her specialty—these range from fun burger cakes to grandiose eight-foot high, lighted cakes for weddings.
