MANILA -- Lea Salonga shot to international fame when she played the lead role of Kim in the musical "Miss Saigon" when it debuted in London's West End in 1989.

Since then, Salonga would regularly include songs from the musical like "Sun and Moon" and "Last Night of the World" in her concerts.

But at the MCC Theater's Miscast Gala in New York City on Monday, Salonga chose to perform a "Miss Saigon" tune that she has never sung before.

The Tony winner chose "Why God Why," which was performed in the show by Chris, the American soldier who falls in love with Kim.

"I've never actually sung it like ever. The only time I ever sung it was this afternoon's rehearsal. And that was two times. So this is actually the third time that I'm singing it. So God help me," she said in her spiel.

She shared the link to the video of her performance on her social media accounts on Tuesday.

"After hearing it hundreds of times, it felt great to finally sing it," she tweeted.
