MANILA -- Netizens took to microblogging site Twitter to show off their wit and creativity in line with the 118th celebration of Philippine independence today.

The hashtag #RP612Fic became one of the top trending topics on Twitter, generating more than 115,000 tweets as of 3 p.m.

The entries under this hashtag contained fan fiction events involving popular Philippine heroes such as Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Gen. Antonio Luna, Apolinario Mabini and many others.

Other tweets with the same hashtag also include present-day personalities such as President-elect Rodrigo Duterte.
