The doll was released on mattelcreations.com on October 9 to Barbie Fan Club Members, and to the general public on the 10th. It is the creation of Filipino American Carlyle Nuera, lead designer for Barbie Signature by Mattel.

Wearing a corset with terno sleeves, a sun crown, the arms of the Filipina Barbie are covered in tribal tattoos and many Philippine-inspired jewelry.

In a post Nuera, who designed the 2015 Mutya Barbie says this new Barbie is a little sister to the first design, even wearing the same bracelet. He says he had looked to the motherland of the Philippines for inspiration in creating this piece.

Nuera has spent some 14 years with Mattel, and worked on over a hundred pieces during that span. He has also been sharing his art with the Filipino community and recently hosted a fashion show at the iconic Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture.
