MANILA -- From the group behind Bonchon Chicken comes a new concept that gives local foodies a new way of enjoying pizza, much like what they did with fried chicken.

Alexander Scott Tan, managing director of Scottland Food Inc. observed that in the past, most locally available fried chicken were of the American style with thick breading. With Bonchon, they introduced sweet spicy Korean-style chicken with thin crispy breading at an affordable price point that was attractive to Filipino foodies.

In the same way, pizza is seen as bulky and not exactly portable. EAT Pizza changes all that with practical packaging with an affordable price point.

With its boxy packaging, it’s pretty easy to put into a bag and carry around. Instead of the traditional square bulky box, it comes in a sliding package that slides out with the pizza on a tray. The pizza then slides off the tray with each bite much like the modern way of eating a burrito or a shawarma.

A 10-inch-long pizza is good for one. Jeeves de VeyraA 10-inch-long pizza is good for one. Jeeves de VeyraIt’s a 10-inch-long pizza that’s good for one. Starting at P99 for the basic cheese and as high as P179 for the special varieties, I think this is great value for money with a thick crust that’s crispy on the outside and doughy soft on the inside. It’s filling but doesn’t take away the flavors of the sauce, the mozzarella cheese and the toppings.

Speaking of toppings, they’ve currently got 10 flavors. While they do have the usual cheese, pineapple pizza and pepperoni pizza, the ones to check out are the Korean varieties. Ever had condensed milk on pizza? Sweet potato? How about samgyup and kimchi? Bulgogi? The pizzas are just another way to enjoy these Korean favorites that we’ve come to be familiar with.

Pair the pizzas with their sides. They’ve got pasta, but to complete the Korean experience, try out the tteokbokki, sweet potato corn cheese, or the sweet and spicy corn cheese.

In my opinion, EAT Pizza can expand quickly. It’s a lean and mean kitchen operation with a small footprint. Instead of one pizza coming out every five minutes from a conveyor-type pizza oven used by other chains, at least five or six come out every cycle.

I think it's a safe bet that EAT Pizza branches are going to be sliding into an area near you sooner or later.

The first Metro Manila branch of EAT Pizza is located at the second floor of the City Center (main mall) of SM North EDSA right at the entrance of the bridgeway to the Annex. Delivery is available via Grab or FoodPanda.
