The cast of 'Silver Lining Redux'

MANILA -- The Filipino musical “Silver Lining” is set to return this November with a refreshed edition, titled “Silver Lining Redux.”

Produced by Rockitwell Studios and MusicArtes, Inc., this new version explores the vibrant lives of three high school friends as they navigate their youthful adventures, from lively gatherings to spirited competitions, eventually transitioning to their university years at UP Diliman, amid the tumultuous backdrop of the 1970s.

“Silver Lining Redux” not only captures the essence of the baby boomer and flower power movements of the ‘60s and ‘70s but also integrates contemporary themes, reflecting today’s evolving changes. The narrative promises to convey messages of hope and redemption, resonating with audiences across generations.

The musical, which garnered critical acclaim during its original run in 2023, received five nominations at the prestigious Aliw Awards, including nods for Best Director, Best Composer, Best Actor, Best Script, and Best Musical.

Maribel Legarda, artistic director of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), directs the production, with original music by Jack Teotico, who also serves as the show’s composer and lyricist. Co-producer Jay Valencia-Glorioso from MusicArtes collaborates with a talented team, including Palanca Award winners Joshua Lim So and Liza Magtoto, alongside musical director Vince Lim and choreographer PJ Rebullida.

The cast boasts a stellar lineup, featuring award-winning and veteran actor-director Ricky Davao as Leo, Raul Montesa as Raul, and Krystal Brimner as Julia. Albert Silos who plays Young Leo, Jay Cortez as Young Raul, Sara Sicam as Young Josie, Dippy Arceo as Dalai, and Rodel Pingol are also part of the ensemble.

Davao expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting, “I’m really honored and privileged to be invited to be one of the producers pero kasi I’m really part of this show and from the very beginning and my age di ba bigla ako nagkaroon ng isang lead role. Musical pa. Kung kilala niyo ko alam niyo na ‘yun na mahilig akong kumanta.”

Davao, who is also the line producer, shared his pride in working on this project.  

“'I'm very proud of this project. We did it last year. Grabe ang response ng mga tao and I read that, hindi naman new script but ‘yung mga additional, mas nakakakilabot, mas nakaka in love, mas nakakaiyak, [at] nakaka-excite.” he added.

“Sliver Lining Redux” will have an eight-show run from November 8 to 10 and November 15 to 17 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium at RCBC Plaza in Makati. Tickets are available at Ticket 2 Me.
