<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1729301090134462362176_962877675870636_6119505335130176743_n.jpg" style="width:300px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Facebook/The Saint Teresa of Calcutta Award </div>MANILA — A Filipino nun recently received the St. Teresa of Calcutta Award for her nearly three decades of spiritual work to the Agta community in Cagayan province.<div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/overseas/multimedia/photo/09/05/23/mother-teresa-honored-on-death-anniversary">Mother Teresa honored on death anniversary</a></div>“It&#x27;s a joyful experience doing missions in peripheries, especially with indigenous people communities,&quot; said Sister Minerva Caampued of the Franciscan Apostolic Sisters, a church known for charitable deeds for the poor and other marginalized sectors.She received the award on October 4 during the 41st edition of the distinguished Philippine-based humanitarian awards for her long committed service to the Agta community in Santa Ana, Cagayan.“Despite receiving the award, I did not achieve it alone; it was a collaborative effort with other mission partners who have become part of my mission, as well as the support of my religious community,” Caampued mentioned in an online interview.&quot;This opportunity that I was recognized on a national level turned out really good because my personal connection with the Agta community is a communal discernment,” she added.She explained that the missionary partners share the same vision with her, treating the Agta community as collaborators of inclusivity rather than mere objects of programs and projects.&quot;Interconnectedness and interdependence with one another would somehow counteract the culture of individualism and exclusivity approach in doing sacred mission,&quot; she noted.Caampued also stated that beyond her calling, she is committed to continually listen to the needs of the poor, ensure their messages are understood, and respond appropriately to the needs of the oppressed.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1729301144756pareho.png" style="width:300px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>Facebook/Minerva Caampued</div>Her selfless service led to the development of Pagadalan Dagiti Agta Iti Santa Ana, Cagayan Association (PAG-ASACA) schools in 2013 — a community-based Indigenous people school — as well as the construction of the Agta cultural learning center, including its museum, multi-purpose hall, dormitories, staff houses, and playgrounds.Moreover, the award-giving body lauded the nun&#x27;s dedication to not just preserve the Agta heritage but also to promote environmental conservation, healthcare, and feeding program initiatives.“She remains a shining example of compassion, inspiring hope, and transformation—elevating lives through selfless service,” they said.The SCTA award was established in 1983 in a joint project between the Alfonso Yuchengco (AY) Foundation and the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Manila.This award honors individuals who have selflessly given at least 25 years of their lives to humanitarian work for underprivileged Filipinos.The annual recognition program is in line with the celebration of National Indigenous People&#x27;s Month.
