And according to Toyoshima, it was love at first sight. </p><p>“His eyes really sealed the deal. However, they continued to be inexplicably drawn to the Burgos — and was eventually convinced they are the ones meant to rewrite the stray’s future. </p><p>“During that time, we heard that there’s already a bunch of amazing people who lined up and even volunteered to adopt him. So we didn’t bug the adoption team in the beginning and we were just really hoping for Burgos to have his forever home until we keep on seeing daily updates from PAWSsion Project’s social media pages,” she said.  </p><p>“It struck us to the core on a daily basis and boom! I asked Cedrick if we’re already both emotionally, mentally and physically ready. Nobody has ever ‘gotten over’ grief and yet the death of a pet can remind us of how vulnerable and precious life is,” Toyoahima said. </p><p>“It’s that process of acceptance and letting go that builds the resilience necessary to navigate life’s obstacles and new beginnings. Loki taught us to never lose that drive and never stop loving other dogs.
