Visita Iglesia in Bulacan

As part of the Holy Week tradition, Catholic devotees participate in Visita Iglesia, also known as the "Seven Churches Visitation," to commemorate the Passion and life of Christ.

San Pascual Baylon Parish Church  (Obando Church), located along J.P. Rizal Street, Obando, Bulacan, is one of the most visited churches in Bulacan, renowned for the Obando Fertility Rites.  Also known as the National Shrine of Nuestra Señora Inmaculada Concepcion de Salambao, the fertility rites have devotees dance in honor of San Pascual Baylon, Santa Clara, and Our Lady of Salambao in hopes of conceiving children or having a fruitful harvest.

The National Shrine of the Divine Mercy, located in Sta. Rosa 1, Marilao, Bulacan, is a popular pilgrimage site for Catholics. The church compound houses a 100-foot statue of the Divine Mercy, attracting devotees seeking spiritual solace and blessings.

The St. Augustine Parish Church, also known as the Baliuag Church, is one of the oldest churches in the province of Bulacan, boasting a rich history dating back to the Spanish colonial period. Renowned for its Baroque architecture and cultural significance in the region, the church holds a prominent place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike.

This oldest church, built in 1572, has borne witness to our ancestors’ struggle against Spanish, American, and Japanese colonizers over the years. With its 17th-century baroque architecture, the church serves as a monumental reminder of its historical significance to Filipinos across generations.

The Basilica Minore de Immaculada Concepcion or the Malolos Cathedral, situated along Estrella Street in Malolos, Bulacan, serves as the seat of the Bishop of Malolos, who holds jurisdiction over the entire province of Bulacan and the City of Valenzuela. Designed with neoclassical architecture and some Baroque influence, the church is known for its captivating interiors. This church was General Emilio Aguinaldo’s seat of power in 1896 and currently houses the Diocese of Malolos. It has earned the reputation of being the bastion of faith over the centuries in the province. In 1999, it was designated as a Minor Basilica in honor of the Immaculate Conception by Pope John Paul II.

<div>Millions of Filipino Catholics embark on a spiritual journey this Holy Week through fasting and prayers as a form of penitence. As part of this tradition, Catholic devotees participate in Visita Iglesia, also known as the &quot;Seven Churches Visitation,&quot; to commemorate the Passion and life of Christ. </div>Here&#x27;s a list of famous churches in Bulacan, known for both their religious and historical significance, which are go-to destinations for Catholic devotees during Holy Week. Devotees are advised to bring with them extra patience as heavy traffic is expected near religious sites as the Holy Week draws near. These Bulacan churches will be open for Visita Iglesia from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., except on Maundy Thursday when schedule starts after the Mass of the Last Supper from 7:30 p.m. until midnight. Walk-in devotees or small groups will be allowed, while those coming in bulk from other provinces will need to have a schedule from their respective parish offices.   <div> </div>
