This exhibition, a first in Southeast Asia, is a display of international solidarity and support for the fight for equality and non-discrimination in the Philippines. The dress, a global symbol of LGBTQIA+ rights and resilience, last donned by Filipino queer icon and celebrity Vice Ganda, is comprised of flags of countries where being LGBTQI is punishable by law, including eight countries in which homosexual acts can result in the death penalty. “We are happy to be invited here especially now that this dress can amplify the fight for the SOGIE Equality Bill. Hopefully, this creates attention on the matter and helps the Philippines to move forward,” said Arnout van Krimpen, Amsterdam Rainbow Dress artist. ‘’Everybody should have the right to be themselves. It doesn’t matter who you are or whom you love. That is why the Netherlands promotes equal rights for LGBTQIA+ persons worldwide,’’ Marielle Geraedts, ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Philippines, added. “We are excited to present the first showcase of the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress in Southeast Asia. This historic dress serves as a powerful reminder of hope for an equal and equitable world. It also underscores the importance of passing the SOGIE Equality Bill,” Vince Liban, Pride PH convenor. A ceremonial ribbon-cutting reinforced the call for continued advocacy and progress toward equal rights and non-discrimination for all Filipinos. The exhibition of the dress has been made possible by Pride PH, the Amsterdam Rainbow Dress Foundation, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ayala Malls TriNoma, Babaylanes, Inc., and PANTAY.
