Fête de la Musique in PH

Born in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique has become a global celebration of music after expanding to over 100 countries, including the Philippines. The country&#x27;s first edition of the free live music event was held in 1994 in Malate, with only a handful of bands and 40 attendees. Fast forward to 2024, Fête de la Musique in the Philippines has come a long way, with hundreds of artists set to gather for the festival&#x27;s 30th year. &quot;Over the past 30 years, a lot has happened for Fête,&quot; Sana Schifferer, project manager for this year&#x27;s festival, said during a media launch on Thursday. &quot;The community has grown, and also the participation of artists.&quot;&quot;We went from having main stage events to joining pocket stages in 2011, and we opened up to different sub-cultures, scenes, and genres,&quot; she recalled. &quot;Then in 2017, we opened up to destinations all over the country. Handout</div>Filipinos can expect a musical feast this June as there will be performers and musicians in over 100 stages in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Fête will kick off on June 16 with a sunset gathering dubbed &quot;Music Heals,&quot; which aims to highlight how music can also nourish the mind, body, and soul through song, dance, and a sound bath.This will be followed by a gig by the French duo Pfel and Greem of C2C at Mistral in Raffles Makati on June 20. They will also be part of the Fête de la Musique main stage on June 21, along with fellow French artists as well as Filipino acts: SHANNi, Jason Dhakal x Lustbass, Sinosikat x Jose Miguel, Dwata, Jewelmer Jazz Band, Any Name&#x27;s Okay, Morobeats, Autotelic, and Dilaw. From June 21 to 29, music fans can choose from 70 stages across 21 locations in the Philippines: Albay, Bacoor, Baguio, Baler, Cagayan de Oro, Camarines Sur, Cavite, Cebu, Davao, El Nido, Laguna, Los Baños, Marikina, Masbate, Naga City, Pampanga, Puerto Galera, Siargao, Siquijor, South Cotabato, and Zambales.Singer August Wahh, who will perform in Siargao and Poblacion this year, noted how <span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(65, 65, 65);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none">Fête de la Musique connects artists not just with audiences, but also with fellow members of the music industry. &quot;I&#x27;ve been playing for Fête for a very, very long time and I have very good memories of it,&quot; she said. &quot;I love it because it&#x27;s a community. A lot of times, musicians don&#x27;t get to watch each other because we&#x27;re usually playing at the same circuit at the same time. We&#x27;re usually drowning in our own music or constantly trying to promote ourselves, and never really get to watch other musicians.&quot; &quot;Here, I get to see other performers as well and bands that I love. Handout </div>On June 22, a day after the main stage, Sonik Philippines will hold a conference that tackles both the business and artist sides of the music industry. The event, set at Astbury in Makati, will feature Gwen Sharp of The Green Room France, known for its efforts to push for environmental and societal change in the cultural sector. The festivities will continue on June 28 as part of the barangay fiesta of Poblacion in Makati, with more than 41 independently produced pocket stages featuring different genres such as reggae, acoustic, rock, blues, soul, and funk.&quot;I think what Fête de la Musique in the Philippines celebrates is the authentic connection between French and Filipino cultures, and also music, friendship, and generosity. And I think it&#x27;s so fantastic that we&#x27;re doing our 30th year celebration here in the Philippines,&quot; said Kate Torralba, who has performed in Fête events in Paris, Manila, and Cebu.
