<div style="text-align:left"><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:300px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17225593668101722559364159.jpeg" style="width:300px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner"></span></span></span></div><p style="text-align:left">Screengrabs from TikTok: @cjmabini10, @kwiyoomiii</p><div></div><p style="text-align:left">Gen Zs are now embracing a trend called &quot;underconsumption core.&quot;</p><p>Underconsumption is a practice where you only buy what you need, and according to content creators on TikTok, it is their way to cut costs and practice &quot;regular shopping with a more Gen Z-friendly title.&quot;</p><p>The trend encourages people to lead a minimalist lifestyle by focusing on owning fewer products than they actually need, to consume less, and to live more.</p><p>&quot;It is to just focus on buying what you need, and at the same time saving money,&quot; said TikTok content creator CJ Mabini, who has been practicing underconsumption core for a year. </p><p>Another TikTok user, Rosel Pacamara, for her part said embracing this lifestyle increased her self-control and helped her reduce waste. </p><p>&quot;Mas nakakaubos na ako ng mga products, especially with makeup. And I found myself na hindi na bumibili ng mga unnecessary things. Mas may self-control na ako ngayon,&quot; she said. </p><div class="iframely-embed"><div class="iframely-responsive" style="padding-bottom:0px;height:617px"><iframe allowfullscreen="" src="//iframely.net/L7GWtqr?v=1&amp;app=1" style="box-shadow:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.06) 0px 1px 3px"></iframe></div></div><script async="" src="//iframely.net/embed.js"></script><div><br/></div><div class="iframely-embed"><div class="iframely-responsive" style="padding-bottom:0px;height:617px"><iframe allowfullscreen="" allow="autoplay *; encrypted-media *; ch-prefers-color-scheme *" src="//iframely.net/0xpyVhw?v=1&amp;app=1" style="box-shadow:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.06) 0px 1px 3px"></iframe></div></div><script async="" src="//iframely.net/embed.js"></script><div><br/></div><p>Pacamara noted that many Gen Zs do not realize that they are consuming more than what is necessary given the convenience of online shopping, as well as their tendency to jump from one trend to another. </p><p>&quot;Overconsumption has been normalized in this generation,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;Dati, bumibili ako ng makita kong trending, tapos hindi naman pala bagay sa akin or hindi ko naman pala talaga gusto,&quot; added Mabini. &quot;Now, with just buying what I need, I get to use them until maubos at hindi nakatambak lang.&quot; </p><p>The two content creators hope that the underconsumption core trend will continue so that more people, not just Gen Zs, will be more responsible when it comes to what they buy and use. </p><p style="text-align:left">&quot;Mas na-appreciate ko &#x27;yung mga bagay na meron ako. And actually mas nagiging smart and creative ako kasi &#x27;yung mga bagay na currently meron ako, puwede ko pa pala gamitin in other things,&quot; Pacamara said.</p>
