<div><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2ozDFEnMrYk?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> </div>Philipp’n Italian, a Filipino-Italian fusion eatery, has opened at The Market at 70 King, a new food hall in Oshawa located east of Toronto.Chefs Faye and Peter serve creative dishes like Caldereta Gnocchi and Kare Kare Fusilli, made with fresh, hand-made pasta.Their unique recipes, blending Filipino and Italian flavors, have been a hit with customers, who love the unexpected harmony between the two cuisines.&quot;Italian and Filipino cooking is very different when it comes to spices and herbs and such,&quot; said Chef Peter.Chef Faye, meanwhile, recalled that Peter &quot;fell in love&quot; first with the Filipino dish Caldereta.&quot;I was serving it with a potato and then when we were playing around or starting to brainstorm about the menu,&quot; she said. &quot;He was like, &#x27;I want the Caldereta in there, how can we pair it?&#x27;&quot;The two chefs believe their Filipino-Italian fusion is the first in Canada. They chose Oshawa to serve its diverse community with limited Filipino dining options.Their concept aligns with the developer’s vision to support Oshawa’s multicultural growth and 10-year revitalization plan.&quot;[It&#x27;s] to bring many cultures together so people can enjoy that Filipino hospitality and culture,&quot; said Summers &amp; Company&#x27;s Rick Summers. &quot;They can enjoy Italian, we have Japanese sushi, we have authentic Polish street food. What you’re seeing is our contribution to the downtown and all the revitalization that’s going on.&quot;Filipinos in the region were thrilled to have a new spot to enjoy Philippine cuisine and feel proud of the growing representation of Filipino businesses.Said Pyculs Dela Cruz: &quot;We’ve been waiting for this because now we have a variety of Filipino restaurants that we can access here which is great. [This] has been missing in Durham for a long time and we’re very happy that this is now here.&quot;The two other Filipino food businesses are excited about their new location. Chef Nina of Bao Mama, who is recovering from a fire at her previous site, is thrilled to have a new home for her creations.&quot;We&#x27;re finally in Oshawa that we can call home,&quot; she said. &quot;My hope is that we will be more successful and more customers to know Bao Mama and to try our freshly handmade baos.&quot;Meanwhile, Norlin Khan, a former Church’s Chicken employee, is eager to own a franchise for the first time.&quot;I gave up my nursing care to have this one because this is my passion,&quot; Khan shared. &quot;Church’s Chicken is my first job as a crew. I worked there for eight years and the owner trusted me so well.&quot;As food halls grow in popularity, Filipino chefs and other emerging restaurateurs have a great platform to launch their businesses and reach a wider audience, while food enthusiasts enjoy a variety of options in a lively, communal setting.
