MANILA – The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) held a press conference on Monday at a hotel in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig announcing the return of the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) for its 9th edition.The upcoming PIMS, taking place from October 24 to 27, 2024 at the World Trade Center Manila, is set to be the biggest yet with a record number of participants. The event will center on showcasing the latest innovations and advancements in the automotive industry, presenting some of the top automotive brands in the country.CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez stated that the theme for this year’s show, “Dare. Drive. The Future Redefined,” encapsulates the industry’s commitment to innovation and resilience. He said that the event not only marks a celebration of past achievements but also aims to foster optimism and forward-thinking within the automotive community.“As we come together today, we not only celebrate our achievements but also look forward with optimism and ambition,” Gutierrez said.Gutierrez noted the Philippine auto industry’s robust performance despite global challenges, with vehicle sales rising to 258,753 units in the first half of this year. This increase reflects growing confidence in the sector and a commitment to expanding market offerings and sustainability initiatives.He described the show as a platform for celebrating technological advancements and sharing the industry’s mission to push boundaries and strive for a greener future.Looking ahead, Gutierrez expressed optimism about surpassing the industry’s target of 468,300 units for 2024, with the potential to reach 500,000 units. This target, set nearly a decade ago, did not fully account for the rise of electrified vehicles and current trends in automotive innovation. The projected growth reflects both the sector’s progress and its adaptation to emerging technologies.“The target of 500,000 units was actually almost 10 years ago and we’re confident that we will hit that if not this year, next year. Take note projection was made almost 10 years ago without much consideration on the electrified vehicles,” Gutierrez said.
